Agitator Repair Kit

Item #2744 (OEM Part)
$19.85

Washing machine agitator repair kit with a medium length cam (there are other kits available for different models). This kit should be used when the top part of the agitator is not moving properly but the bottom part is.

AGITATOR SEEM TO BE SLIPPING, NOT ENGAGING COMPLETELY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE WASH CYCLE.

The agitator has under the cap what are called agitator dogs. They wear out causing agitator to slip. They sell a kit at appliancepartspros.com cost $10. Easy to replace comes with instructions.

Kenmore 70 series clicks loudly inside agitator like it is missing. It will agitate. It is like turn click click turn click click click turn. Not the rhythmic noiseless turns it had a week ago

If its just the agitator not working, but everything else does, you may just have a worn agitator cam assembly, worn agitator dogs, loose agitator bolt, or all of the above. The following link explains what agitator dogs are and how to access them:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs

Whirlpool manufactured washers use a split agitator design. The top half is known as the "auger, while the lower half is the agitator. Between the two pieces is a cam assembly, with small teflon teeth known as "dogs". There's also an agitator bolt that holds the entire assembly to the center post.

If the auger (top half of the agitator) is slipping, I would suspect the dogs or cam assembly need to be replaced. The part number for the dogs is included in the link I provided. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam assembly which includes the dogs, the cam, the cam seal and thrust bearing.

If the entire agitator appears loose or slipping, check the agitator bolt to ensure it is tight. DO NOT overtighten as this can restrict movement of the agitator or damage it. Tighten until snug.

If you have any questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER (located along the wash tub rim under the lid) and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Agitator is slipping- GE model WJRR4170G top load washer

IF the agitator is like the ones in the older models, it will just pull straight up and off of the transmission shaft.

Inside the agitator there is a rubber splined insert with an aluminum center. The soft aluminum strips out causing the grinding sound. Very common to happen.

We used to use a special puller to remove that part and then press a new one back in.
Voila! Repaired agitator!!

Most any appliance parts store should be able to look up your model # and tell you if that agitator can be resplined.

Washer will not agitate but will spin

It sounds like the plastic inside the agitator cog are worn. The smell is the plastic cog turning but the agitator not turning.

Take off the top of the agitator. If any screw are available remove them. If not grab the agitator from the bottom and yank off. Unscrew the agitator drive cog and inspect underside of agitator. Go to an appliance repair shop and reorder a new one. Between $15-30.
