Question about Gateway MX8711 Notebook
My gateway laptop had a registry problem which I tried to correct by following the instructions given to fix the exact problem.After restarting the computer right afterwards the keyboard and mouse stopped functioning. Since I couldn't get my computer to react without the cursor or keyboard I ran the system recovery discs. i did a full wipe after trying to do the partial wipe three times. the full wipe I did twice. For each of the cycles of system recovery the computer would go halfway though the 'recognizing hardware' routine and stop. I let it go once overnight and it was still halfway in the morning. The system recovery program won't finish.
If you made your recovery discs, then call up gateway and tell them you have defective discs, they will send you the factory install discs for free, try them and I bet you will have better results....Restore discs you make yourself are extreemly picky and are easliy ruined if something happens while youo are burning them (someone sends you an IM or email, windows auto updates) with all the hidden processes running in the background any one of them could have caused a glitch while you were making recovery cd's
