Uninstalling touchpad driver

No need to uninstall the drivers, just deactivate the touchpad. You can do so through the device manager or use an Fn-Fx key sequence if you laptop has one. If you have a touchpad icon on the task bar, right click it to see if it gives you the option to deactivate the touchpad.

Cursor problem

Disabling the touchpad on a Dell Inspiron can be useful when typing for long periods of time, or using an external mouse. Bumping or tapping the touchpad while typing can cause cursor jumping and unwanted results. Use the touchpad software to enable or disable touchpad controls. Download the driver for your touchpad at the Dell Support website.

Click on the "Touchpad" icon in the task bar. If the icon doesn't appear, you can download and install the driver for the touchpad from the Dell website, or choose "Start" and "Control Panel." Choose "Device Select" on the touchpad menu, or choose "Mouse" in the "Control Panel" menu and "Device Select." Click "Disable" under "Touchpad" to turn off the touchpad, or click "Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick When a USB Mouse is Connected."

My Advent 5421 Touchpad Is Not Working!!!

Advent laptop computers are equipped with a touchpad and two buttons that service the function of an external mouse. The touchpad can be turned on or deactivated, depending on the user's preference. It's not difficult to either activate or deactivate it.

Power up the computer. Connect a plug-and-play computer mouse to a free USB port on the laptop. The mouse is just temporary to help you get the touchpad working again. Locate the touchpad icon, which is in the lower right-hand side of the screen. The icon will appear as a gray square or rectangle, with two rectangular buttons underneath. Use the mouse to double-click on the touchpad icon, opening a window on your laptop screen. Inside the touchpad window, click the option labeled "Enable Device". Select other options for the touchpad, such as pointer speed and shape. Click "Apply", then "OK". Disconnect the mouse from the laptop.

Synaptics ps/2 touchpad not working after i installed new gamer mouse

It is possible that the install of the gamer mouse deactivated the synaptics touchpad. you can click on the icon in the system tray of the touchpad, browse to settings. There you should find a place where it asks if you want the touchpad deactivate when another pointing device is connected. Deactivate the checkbox and you should have your touchpad back on.

My scroll keys at the touchpad of my laptop won't work but the touchpad is working..

Have you tried going into the control panel to check the settings.
1. click on the start menu then on the right side of the panel click on control panel.
2. Go to the mouse Icon/Description then click on the advanced settings tab at the top far right.
3. You should find touch pad settings in here that will allow you to activate or deactivate the scroll functions or at the very least allow you to reset the settings to their default configuration.

Cursor does not move when running my finger over the touch pad. Thank You Bill

1. Adjust the touchpad sensitivity from the control panel. Perhaps lessening the sensitivity will solve the problem. In Windows OS go to your control panel, and select hardware and sound. Then click "mouse," and when the new window pops up select the settings tab. From there you can adjust the sensitivity. If your mouse came with its own software you may be able to adjust the settings from the system panel. Hover your mouse over the icons near the system clock, and look for an icon that is titled touchpad, or mouse. You can click this icon and adjust settings.
2. Clean the touchpad with rubbing alcohol in case there is a grease buildup on the touchpad. This is the most common cause for touchpad failure.
3. Remove the touchpad drivers from device manager and reinstall. Sometimes there can be driver errors that are preventing the touchpad from working. Device manager can be accessed via control panel in Windows systems.
4. Replace the touchpad if none of these steps work. Prices can range from $15 to $50 plus labor rates. It is best to let a computer professional change this since major disassembly is required to remove and replace the touchpad, and many fragile components will be exposed during this process.

Hope this help. Goodluck!

Hi sheki_68,

If you have disabled the Scrolling Feature of the Touchpad, you will need to re-enable for the function to work correctly. You can enable the Touchpad Setting from the Control Panel, Mouse Options.
  1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel .
  2. In the Control Panel window, click Hardware and Sound .
  3. In the Hardware and Sound window, click Mouse .
  4. In the Mouse Properties window, click the Function tab.
  5. To enable the Scroll function, click to check the box next to Use Scroll Function.
  6. Click the OK button and then close the Hardware and Sound window.
This should re-enable the Scrolling Feature of the Touchpad. If the Function is not available in the Mouse Properties window, you may need to re-install the Touchpad Driver in the Computer to fix it.

Good Luck!

Hope this helps.

Please post back if you require further assistance.

I want to deactivate my touch pad on my dell inspiron 1525 laptop. Please advise how

If you do not see a Touchpad icon in your systray(lower right), go to:

Start/Control Panel/System

On the left choose "Device Manager".

Select "Mice and other pointing devices" and highlight "Dell Touchpad"

Either right click and "Uninstall" or click the uninstall icon at the top.

Restart your machine and it will automatically update the driver from Dell which will put the Touchpad icon back in the system tray.

Click on this icon and go to "Device Select"

Check the "Disable Touchpad/Pointing stick when external USB mouse id present.
