Question about U-Line Icemaker

U-Line undercounter frost free ice maker refrigerator

Water freezes under ice bin. Where does it come from?
Has been serviced 4 times with different techs.
They clear out defrost water drain and/or replace drain heater. It is OK for about 3 months, then same problem. Ice maker runs until full bin and replaces what we use, so it is usually full. The older/lower ice is covered with 'frost'. The U-Line people say they have not had this problem from anyone else, but continue the warranty.
Any ideas?

All units made today have defrost timers to clear ice from the evaporator. Some of the ice sublimates...turns directly into humidity in the air in the box. It re-condenses in the ice tray area. It is possible that nothing is wrong other than excessive opening of the bin area or the defrost timer is running slow and staying on too long. You may also be consuming the ice too slowly. Can you either change the amount of ice in the bin by adding something to simulate part of the ice content or shut off ice production against low demand?

Why is water coming out under the refrigerator?

Maybe the freezer defrost drain is blocked. Sometimes the water freezes in the drain and the next time the defrost cycle occurs the water can't drain correctly. Is there any water inside the refrigerated section of the unit? Also there may be a catch pan under the fridge that is misaligned or out of place or the drain line isn't positioned to place the defrost water into the pan. Most modern refrigerators are frost free and defrost the freezer on a regular timed cycle. This is why your ice cubes shrink and stick together and why you get freezer burn on the food left in them for extended time.

The bucket that holds the ice is freezing all the ice together and then it will not come out of the dispenser

You have a bad water valve, this causes water not to stop entering the unit and causes one big cube. You didn't mention any ice or frost behind the ice bin so I will assume you have none. the water valve should correct this issue.

Good Luck

Refrigerator ice dispenser freezes up

Refrigerator ice makers can fail for several reasons, some simple and some tricky. First, look for kinks in the water supply line tubing. Carefully roll your fridge away from the wall to inspect the line and connections located behind it. Straighten any kinks. Note: Use caution when attempting to straighten the 1/4-inch soft copper tubing. It can easily break!

If your system includes a water filter, the filter may be clogged or installed incorrectly. Check your manual and replace as needed, or have a qualified professional do it for you.

Check the ejector arm (inside and under the bin) and the delivery chute (on the door, below the bin outlet) for blockage. Use a plastic utensil to clear them as needed.

For additional troubleshooting steps and solutions, see Ice maker not working. I hope this helps!

Ice maker will not harvest

As crazy as this sounds, turn the temp control a little warmer (counter clockwise). On this model, this control needs to switch to harvest the ice. A warmer setting should fix this issue.

If the fill tube gets choked up with ice, (Figure S-4) it usually means that the water fill solenoid valve is leaking. The valve is not closing properly and is dribbling water. If the leakage is slow enough, water may freeze in the fill tube. Over time it will freeze the tube completely shut.

Found in the FAQ section on
Samsung refrigerator freezers produce about 120 cubes per day, which is in line with most manufacturer specifications.
Empty the ice tray and let the unit run for 24 hours.
If fewer than 50 cubes are produced during the 24-hour test, then your refrigerator requires service. Please contact Samsung Service at 1-800-SAMSUNG to schedule a service appointment.
If your freezer is producing 50 to 90 cubes per day, try the following:
  • Set the freezer temperature display to a lower setting. Freezer temperature must be 5 degrees Fahrenheit or less for the ice maker to work properly.
  • Make sure that the water valve on the refrigerator water supply line is completely open. You can find the water valve where the refrigerator water supply line taps into your house water line.
  • If you have a water filter in your refrigerator, change the filter cartridge. For instructions, see your Users Manual.
If you want your freezer to produce more than 120 ice cubes in a day, try the following:
  • An ice maker typically makes 1 tray of ice every 90 minutes. To shorten the amount of time the freezer takes to produce a tray of ice, set the freezer temperature display to a lower setting.
  • If your refrigerator has a Power Freeze function, press the Power Freeze button to speed up the ice making process. In the Power Freeze mode, both the compressor and the freezer fan run for 10 hours continuously. The ice making interval is reduced from 90 minutes to 55 minutes. If the ice bucket fills in less than 10 hours, Power Freeze stops automatically.
NOTE: If you have just installed your refrigerator, it will take 6 to 12 hours for the refrigerator to produce ice.
You should throw away the first three batches of ice cubes that the ice maker produces (approximately 30 cubes) to ensure the ice maker is making ice from clean water.
