IF YOU SAY IT RUNS FOR A BREIF PERIOD WITH STARTING FLUID THEN SHUTS OFF, IT IS A GAS PROBLEM, I WOULD MAKE SURE THE FUEL LINE IS NOT KINKED, OR COLLAPSED, CARB CLEANED FULLY AND IF THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE IT COULD BE A VALVE PROBLEM. TO CHECK THAT YOU NEED TO CHECK COMPRESSION. IT A VALVE IS STUCK OPEN THE COMPESSION WOULD BE LOW. IT CAN BE CHECKED QUICKLY WITH ABN ASSISTANT PUTTING THERE THUMB OVER THE SPARK PLUG HOLE TO SEE IF IT BLOWS OUT WHEN THE ENGINE IS CRANKED.OR OF COURSE A COMPRESSION TESTER WOULD BE THE BEST THING. BUT I THINK IT IS A CARB PROBLEM. SOMETIMES THE FLOAT GETS STUCK FROM BAD GAS AND NEVER ALLOWS GAS INTO THE CARB.

Engine runs tines dont

The following was extracted from the Mantis owners manual..

At some point, you may find that the tines won't turn when you press the throttle. This may mean the engine isn't sitting all the way down on the worm gear housing. Perhaps you've been using your Tiller
for several years. Or perhaps you've removed the engine for use with the Mantis hedge trimmer attachment, then replaced it. In either case, the flange bolt may have come loose and lifted the engine up.
If this happened you'll notice a gap between the bottom of the engine clutch case and the top of the worm gear housing.

To fix this, loosen the flange bolt. Take the engine off the worm gear housing. Notice the hex head on top of the drive shaft . Inside the clutch case, you'll find the clutch drum. Make sure the hex head
lines up with the clutch drum inside the clutch case. Then put the engine back on the worm gear housing. Make sure the plastic carrying handle is not under the fuel tank. If you've followed these steps properly, there will be no gap between the clutch case and the worm gear housing. Make sure you tighten the flange bolt.

Where is the spark plug located won't start

Try looking for the plug wire and follow it in. Should be coming out of the flywheel shroud on top of the engine. Good luck.

Runs good but oil is running out of carb

I would start by removing the valve breather, it is held on by 2 screws, and cleaning it with parts cleaner, blowing it out with compressed air and let it dry.

With the breather removed, you can spray parts cleaner through the long tube running from the valve breather to the carburetor.

You may also need to drain the carburetor bowl by removing the carburetor bowl nut located on the bottom of the carburetor.

If that does not help. The next step would be,Your breater or (PCV) valve is gone. Follow the hose from the carb breather to the crank case breather. There are two screws that holds it into the valve case. Remove and replace it along witht the gasket

How do I tighten a loose tiller on the hs 580 mobility scooter?

Hi,

The generic steps involved are :-

1.Locate the knob on the base of the tiller. Turn the knob counterclockwise to loosen the bolt.
2 Adjust the tiller to the desired position. Push it forward or pull it backwards until you achieve a comfortable steering position.
3 Tighten the knob on the base of the tiller. Turn the knob clockwise to tighten the tiller on the scooter.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Won't start. I have followed all of the directions in the manual and still can't get it to start. I replaced the spark plug. Still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Empty the fuel tank. Add fresh fuel/oil mixture. Then add two ounces of 100% acetone to the fuel tank. This will remove the build up inside the carburetor, etc. Try to start several times. Then let it sit for a while. Then try to start it again. Keeping the trigger (speed control) fully depressed when attempting to start it helps immensely. Repeat trying to start it a few times then letting it sit for a while until it starts. If the plastic bubble primer is broken it must be replaced, the tiller will never start if it is cracked. If there is no fuel shown in the primer the fuel lines are cracked and must be replaced. You can find suitable replacments for the fuel lines and fuel filter at Home Depot where the Ryobi/Echo maintenance kits are sold.
