Question about Computers & Internet

4 Answers

I am running windows xp 2005 mce with sp2 and in general everything works fine. However, the epg has become unusable and says I have no internet connection. I have tried manual downloading and gotten the same result. I do still get reminders that my data is out of date.

I tried what you suggested and got no positive results. Media Center says I cannot connect to the internet, and thus the EPG gets no programs.

I am connected to the internet. My browser works just fine. I was using the choice of "notify me but do not install instantly" when I first contacted you.

I would think it obvious by this communication that i have a good internet connection. Why would I want to disconnect and reconnect?

My PC is an HP Pavilion m7463w. This problem is new -- the EPG worked fine for several months. The answer from my previous expert was to turn off my firewall, but I am sure that the firewall was installed and turned on before the EPG failure.

What do you mean with EPG? Also do you have a firewall program on the computer that could possibly be blocking the programs internet access?

Try turning your firewall off and try again.

Data out of date in not thru the internet. It is just built into the program and keeps reminding you to update the data. Now, as far as not connected to the net is concerned, it seems that your connection is faulty. Please delete this connection from Control Panel->Network Connections. And recreate a new connection.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. You are getting this error as the Automatic Updates settings are not enabled on your Computer. To turn on Automatic Updates, follow these steps:

  • Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER.
  • Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click to select one of the following options.
Or follow this procedure—

Step One: Click the START menu.

Step Two: Click the CONTROL PANEL icon.

Step Three: Click the SECURITY CENTER option.

Step Four: Click the AUTOMATIC UPDATES option.

It is recommended that you select the Automatic (recommended)--Automatically download recommended updates for my computer and install them option. By selecting this option you’ll not receive that error and the windows will automatically updates itself and wouldn’t prompt that error again. However if you are not using internet on your computer then select the third option i.e. Notify me but don't automatically download or install them.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Turn off your windows firewall and antivirus firewall .
Sometimes firewall blocks ports so this error comes.
Also check firewall of router.
Let me know if you need more assistance .
Thanks.

How do I restore XP rundll32.exe?

I've used SFC to repair Windows 2000/2003 servers in the past, it debuted in Windows 2000 and it fixes system dlls. Start > Run > type 'cmd' and 'sfc /scannow'. You will have to insert a Windows XP SP2 cd for it to work (or mount and ISO of XP with a tool like alcohol 120).

If the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder becomes corrupt or unusable, use sfc /scannow, sfc /scanonce, or sfc /scanboot to repair the contents of the Dllcache directory.

General system requirements
  • Microsoft ® Windows 98/98SE; Windows 2000 (service pack 4 or later); Windows XP; Windows 2003 server
  • Microsoft® Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (All applications beside InCD and Nero ImageDrive work in the x86 emulator that allows 32-bit Windows applications to run)
  • Microsoft® Windows Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
  • LightScribe support is only available for Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4 or later) and Windows XP or Windows MCE 2004 or greater operating systems
Current version is 10. There are a lot of driver differences between XP & Vista. I'd buy the new version. You could try compatibility mode but I suspect it won't work.

Hi there, the only reason it doesn't work it's because the wireless key is not correct. It usually shows limited connectivity when the wireless key is not correct. Even just a letter upper or lower case will cause the problem. Since you are connected with the other computer go under the Router settings and double check the wireless key. Check what kind of encryption the router is using, make sure your wireless adapter can support it.

My wireless remote is not connected to my computer

Are you running the MCE version of XP and is it installed? Look for c:\Windows\eHome directory. If you find that directory, then you should have MCE installed and running. If not, you need to get and install the MCE version of XP. Then look here for further information to getting your remote to work with the MCE.

Do you have tv tuners installed and setup properly? Media Center 2005 is just the software, the computer needs to have hardware tuners in it and hooked up to external antenna or cable.
