Hi there My Sansui TV screen started showing thin white horizontal lines across the top of the screen. All of a sudden the screen starts condensing the picture into fine lines across the middle of the...

It is an indication that you have a problem on the vertical section on the main board. The faulty parts is the electrolytic capacitor which affect the linearity of the screen that's why you encountered that kind of problem.
I've advice you to send it to repair shop or look for a qualified technician to isolate the faulty electrolytic capacitor and do re-soldering for some dry joints on the main board.Once replaced the capacitor your unit will back to normal again.

No picture just on line in the middle left to right

I know the line is horizontal but the problem is in the "Vertical" circuit of the set that deflects the picture from the middle of the screen to the top and bottom.

Only a few easy possible reasons for this.

1) set has developed bad solder connections in the vertical output circuit--it happens as a normal thing and most sets like this the picture will have opened and closed before going to just a line.

2) a part in the vertical output circuit is bad---most common is a IC chip for output. Not real hard to get at or replace and is inexpensive.

If it is as stated here a 27 inch set it may not be economical to fix and cheaper to just consider replacing it.

Let me know if you have questions.

Repais tv

Sounds like a shorted picture tube. Or it could be a blue drive problem. Hard to say. Thanks for using fixya.

I have a 27 inch sansui television. It is about 5 years old and white lines have started to appear at the top of the screen. They are kind of annoying. Does anyone know what that is.

If your TV has a picture tube rather than an LCD display, you have a problem with the vertical circuit
(the circuit that "paints" the picture from top to bottom). Usually a capacitor in this circuit will open up causing this type of problem.

Straight line in the middle of monitor. picture srunct

This is called vertical collapse and the most common cause is a failure of the vertical IC. If you can update this with the model number, I should be able to provide the part numbers and costs for the parts required to fix this. Also, if you intend to repair this yourself, please indicate thtat as well. The parts will cost around $20 or so.

If you are using an antenna or regular cable without a cable box, put the tv on an analog channel. Go into the menu. Select the middle icon at the top of the screen. Go down to the TV/CABLE line. Select either TV (for antenna) or CABLE (for regular cable) on the right. Go down to AUTO CH MEMORY and press the volume+ (right arrow) button. Wait for the channel search screen to clear.
