Hello there brennerc.

Here's your GEEK-steer ...

Based on your description I'm not sure which character that is. Are you sure it's located on a standard keyboard? If not, it's what's known as an "extended" character, with which you'll need your Windows "Character Map" accessory to help you locate.

[Start > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map]
... or ...
[Start > Run... > type "charmap.exe" (without quotes), then Enter]

  • Clicking on any character's (square) will initiate a perpetually zoomed popup to help you see it better.
  • Once you find desired character, double-click (or select button) it to place it into the "characters to copy" field, where you can then "copy" (button) it, and then paste wherever desired.
Good luck, and thanks in advance for posting back ...
  • to let me (and others) know how things worked out,
  • if you have any further questions,
  • to provide clarification or feedback.

If you look closely i think that you will find that the third character beside the semicolon is actually part of group that belongs with the number keys when number lock is on .. so for instance on my laptop I have / by 0 a * under p a - by ; and + by / and all are activated when I press number lock.. so that / * - and + are activated when number lock is on .. this makes it just like a number pad calculator. divide times subtract add

In reviewing this I looked at a picture of your laptop keyboard. There may not be a number lock like I thought. It may just be the fn + ; all the blue symbols should be fn + key

Logitech keyboard had been working fine. Now the keys for symbols on the number keys, and for colon, semicolon, etc. and what gets typed is different. I can not access most symbols.

Replace it. Keyboards use timing signals to perform operations. If your keyboard looses a sectional functionality, they have to be replaced.

Trying to set Ethernet setting and the keyboard doesn't have the right symbols. : and % not there

On a US English keyboard the colon is one key to the right of the letter L. The percent symbol is above the number 5 on the top row of the keyboard not the numeric keypad on the right side. If these keys do not work then your keyboard is bad.

Hi! Today when I restarted my netbook from sleep, it decided that it would type semicolons when I hit the shift button and colons when I hit the delete button. Typing letters also gave intermitant...

There is probably a foreign object beneath the key cap and the keyboard membrane. Use a flashlight to see if there is something visible between the keys. If not, the key cap ( the part you actually type on ) can be removed CAREFULLY to see if there is a problem, but I would recommend a trained professional do this part, as the components involved in keyboards can be small and easy to break or lose.

The bottom row of keys there is a key with four symbols ? / colon and semicolon. We cannot get the ? or / to print.

You are probably in KBII or a language mode. Go to brotherinternational.con\m, click on support, poke around there you will find a manual.

Where is the simi colon key?

Semi colon is usually on the right side of L key.
May not be at the same position on all keyboards.
semi colon looks like this : (two dots)
colon looks like this ; (a dot above a coma)
To type a semi colon, you have to hold down the Shift key while you press the semi-colon key.
Good luck

Allocation of fingers on keys

HOME KEYS: Left index finger goes on the "F" (you should feel a small bump on the key), left middle finger --> "D", left third finger --> "S", and left pinkie finger --> "A". Right index finger --> "J" (feel bump), right middle finger --> "K", right third finger --> "L", and right pinkie finger --> ";" (semi-colon/colon key). Both thumbs rest on the space bar While the fingers basically stay on those keys, you stretch up & down for the keys closest to the "home keys" (example: use pinkie for "enter" key on the right; use left index finger for "R" and "T). It takes a little while to get used to this but it's the proper way to type, and it is efficient so once you get used to it, you'll be typing like a pro!!
