Question about Sony Cineza VPL HS2 Multimedia Projector

Blue "Haze" at top of screen

My Cineza VPL-HS2 projector is set up to project on a permanent 92" screen. I've had it about 4 yrs and it's been great. About 2 months ago it started to develope a blue "haze" at the top of the picture (about 3 feet accross and an inch or so down. I replaced the bulb, but it's still there. Now it is starting to appear on the left hand edge, and the top part is starting to get bigger. Looks like a curtain now, several inches down at some points.

Any idea what's going on??

A new Prism Block? Great. Having the same problem as well. How long are these projectors suppose to last?

I have the same problem. I bought the projector 2nd hand for $1000 with a screen and stand. It worked perfectly when I bought it, but now I have this annoying blue haze on the right hand side of the screen.

I have a blue haze and I live in the UK. It started when TV installation people came to change over my satellite cables as I wanted SKY+ to be able to come through my projector. I think I dropped it but it landed on the sofa. Ever since the blue haze which started just at the very edges has got progressively worse so that now it fills nearly a quarter of the screen although the haze keeps moving around the screen. I just hope that the cost of fixing it in the UK is not as bad as in the U.S.

Many thanks to the posters above as I didn't know what it was and have cleaned everything in the hope that it was just some dust or dirt.

My VPL-HS51 just started doing the same thing. There's a lot of similar reports out there and they all end up at the same bottom line - the problem is due to a design defect in the 'prism block' (LCD panel) and the only option, other than to throw it away or sell it for parts, is to pay Sony about $2300.00 to fix it. Good luck!

I got my sony vpl-hs51 Projector 2/12 years and I'm having the very same problem with my projector, I have sent it in to sony once already with this problem and now this is the second time that I'm having this problem. I'm not sure what to do. The last time that I had this problem they had to replace the opt unit assy (part # A1094996A) I know that i can't pay a 2300 repair bill. I was told by sony to try to replace the air filter and see if that work, I will see if that can help, I don't think it will work but I will try.If it works I will be back with a report.

Ive recently bought a second hand Sony Cineza VPL-HS2 projector and it doesnt have an AVG input in the back. It does have a S-Video input, a 'video' input and a couple of audio inputs,

I think you mean "VGA" not "AVG". You can use the VGA to S-Video adapter to connect the laptop to the projector however you may get better results using a VGA to A/V (component) adapter to feed video into the RCA video input connector.

I connect new LG Blu -Ray On my Sony Cineza Projector.but only blue colour on the screen ,what is the problem here?

You might have to change the input or start playing blu-ray disc and then change input via the remote to your projector. Make sure it's HDMI out on blu-ray if choice is given and HDMI in on projector.

I have a Sony vpl-1 projector that on initial start up it shuts itself off We have to keep cutting the power completely and start it again, this we have to do for around 4 or 5 times before it works...

If the projector has a lens cap, you have to help the projector to open it completely. Just use your finger and push the cap all ther way. On the projector I have this vis the case. there is a micro switch at the end og the lens cap opening mechanism.

I replaces my bulb in the sony vpl-hs10 and it still will not turn on after I reset it what do I do now? the lamp light is still lite it turns on but the lamp does not project anything

These instructions are for a Sony Cineza VPL HS3, but may be the same for the HS3.
1st thing to check - is the cover properly/completely closed - this can stop the projector from working.
Connect the power and set the projector to standby mode.
Press these buttons on the remote control in this order, for less than 5 seconds each.
Reset - Left Arrow - Right Arrow - Enter

This is required, to reset the lamp timer.

Also, something I found interesting from the internet - lamp life isn't when the bulb dies, but when a bulb has lost 10% of its brightness - so you might well be able to reset the timer and get much more use from the bulb - the image just wont be as bright.

Blue Haze on screen Sony cineza vpl-hs50 projector

Its your blue polarizer going bad. This happens over time due to the excessive heat generated in the projector. The main problem is that your projector has organic LCD panels that degrade over time and in turn degrades your blue polarizer. The same thing happened to my sanyo Z2. It took 5 years for it to show on my Sanyo because I only use the projector for sports and movies. not daily tv watching. In any case, it isnt worth it to spend the money ti fix it...jut put tat towrds a new projector. The latest crop of LCD projectors almost all use in-organic LCD panels that last much longer. Hope this helps.

I also have the same problem -- the fix is to replace the optical block ( Internal lamp engine ) which is a $1,100 part. I just purchased a used projector for half the price of the part.
