Question about HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer

1 Answer

Hp 2605dn Black cartridge is printing 1/8" LEFT of other colors.

Color misalignment on my 2605dn.
Flashed firmware (twice), latest drivers etc.
Replaced remanufactured cartriges with HP OEM units
after alignment problems and one leaking magenta cart.
Black cartridge is printing 1/8" LEFT of other colors (out of margin).
Still misaligned with different black OEM cart cartriges.
Cleaned belt, blew out any loose toner (almost none)
Any assistance is MUCH appreciated.

Tried it a couple of times.. the black is still off by +/- 1/4". ToolBox event log states:
Code 54.1000 Color plane registration sensor error.
This repeats at pages: 4298, 4362, and 4614.

I have the Service Manual. Where and how can I check this sensor? even possibly replace it or its cause?

That problem is frequently on HP 2600 series.
You must try to change all remanufactured toner cartridges with HP OEM with no exception, the best alignment it is when you change the black cartridge and the printer make a cleaning page process. Cartridge HP OEM should be almoust empty. It Is not necesarry to be a new one. After the alignment process, you can put the remanufacturated cartridges back on.
This was work for me. 100%

    Try the following:

    1. Print a config page:Main menu>Reports>Config

Clean the sensors: The black registration sensor is at the top of the black thing that folds out to get to your toner cartridges. I think there is two here that you can see if you look down behind the rubber roller thingy. They are the black things that face the rubber rolly thing and are mounted on pcb boards with wires going to them. The sensors are actually easy to get to so dont bother taking the unit apart (nightmare). Instead fold a screen cleaning wipe (or similar) over the end of something flat (like an audi car key) and gently swipe both sensors a few dozen times, rotating the cloth to ensure it is being cleaned properly. Rotate the ruber roller thingy after and ensure that it is dry. Do this carefully and thoroughly as this is the most important step.

Restore factory settings: Main menu: Service: Restore defaults. Allow the unit to restart.

Clear memory: Power off unit and hold the tick and the cross buttons as you power back on. Hold them until the system says ready.

Calibrate: System Setup, Print Quality, Calibrate Colour.

    Print a config page:Main menu>Reports>Config

Compare the colour and black v's and lines on your first and last configuration pages

    2. . Made an update of the firmware to the latest (2007 & something) go to HP site for that

the color density sensor is right at the top of the ETB belt and extends accross the top of it

SOURCE: HP 2605dn Black prints 1/8" offset to left. Colors do register

Missalignment problems ae not uncommon with this series of printer.
The cause is one of the sensors (which are used for calibration and alignment) on the transfer belt, is faulty.

These sensors are NOT availale, and replacement of the transfer belt is the solution.

Transfer belt replacement on these printers requires quite a bit of dismantling, its not considered to be a user replacable consumable.

2600n faded print on both left and right side.(word doc, no images) not using color black print only.

Is the cartridge an original HP or an inexpensive compatible? The black cartridge could be out of toner. Not a common defect for the Q6000A cartridge though. If it is a poor quality compatible the defect may be the result of a misaligned internal component. Either way replacing the black cartridge should resolve the issue.

The problem is my HP 2605dn will not print in magenta even though there is clearly toner left in the cartridge as indicated by the LCD indicator. Also, when I remove the toner cartridge it is obvious that...

Believe it or not, you may need a FIRMWARE update. I'd be even more certain of this if I knew that you'd accidentally put the colors in the wrong slots once - even if you put them back correctly.

I don't know the operating system you're using (XP, Vista, etc.), but you can follow the steps and find the FIRMWARE (not the 'driver') by going here:

HP 2605dn laser - color fading

HP has a list of troubleshooting steps you can go through for the HP 2605dn when you experience print quality issues.

Two specific things I would try from that list are:
  1. Clean the electrostatic transfer belt.
  2. Clean the printer paper path.
Good Luck!
