Question about Nikon COOLPRINT Thermal Printer

1 Answer

Printer won't communicate with computer

Hi! I'm quite puzzled by a printer/mac problem I have.
About six months ago the printer (an Canon Pixma IP4200) suddenly stopped printing. I have a powermac G4 tower (running on OSX 10.4.10 at the time). I thought it was the printer, so I took it in and was told it was ok--that it printed fine for them. Indeed when I got home I hooked it up to an older G3 (running 10.3.9) and it worked perfectly. The only thing I could think of was that an OS update possibly did something. I have since updated again (to 10.4.11), hoping that would undo something, but no luck.I have literally spent hours on the phone with both Canon and Apple and neither could solve the problem. I have checked cables, ports, downloaded and installed new driver, logged in as a root user, etc. and nothing gets more than a test print from the printer. (It shows up in the USB chain in system profiler.) Any suggestions would be most appreciated, as I'd rather solve the problem than go out and buy another printer which could suddenly do the same thing!
Thanks in advance!

Go to system preferences select print and fax locate the printer in the list to the left and select the minus symbol underneath then restart the system. after rebooting go back to system preferences select print and fax connect the printer and click the add symbol under the list select the ip tab which looks like a globe if the printer doesn't pop up in the ip list you must use the default ip address which should be but if that is not it you will have to contact support again to find out the correct address once you find it in the add print fax you just select add then select it in the default printer drop down menu at the bottom of the screen and you should be ready to print

I'm getting "A communication error has occurred."

Turn off your mobile phone or put it in flight mode. I had the same problem for months and once I figured this out it hasn't happened since.

Printer & PC not communication

Did you delete all printers before instaling drivers so that you would have a clean printer install .

delete all printers first from control panel via printers and other hardware. then reload printer drivers for this printer.

Printer stopped printing suddenly

Hi there , i had a similar problem with the Canon Pixma IP 5000 when hooking up a wireless network. It stopped printing & the only solution was to uninstall printer/software,reboot & install as if you were hooking up printer for the first time.Sometimes software can be a problem if not installed in the right order.I had to completely remove sound card software after installing with antivirus already running.Antivirus had to go on last for everything to work.Still fine after 3 years! Hope you get printer running on newer OS.
