THANKS CTF..I gave you a TOP RATING for effort..But, We are both already on the same page..I only insert the battery and tape prior to use;my battery is JVC (as are all of my tapes)..AND...I have already soldered the leads of the sensor together...Still the tape tray remains STUCK! I cant get the case open to try a HARD REBOOT...What other ideas can you suggest?

Does anyone know IF there is a FUSE controlling the opening and closing of these trays? I just picked up a GR D33 with the same problem..also a non-working LED light. Better yet: Does anyone have a REPAIR MANUAL for the GR D33...which shows the location of internal parts and describes what the circuits do.
    Thanks!!

FIrst, tap the side of the camera with a good thump, and it will remedy the problem immediately.

Then, to prevent it happening again, do the following:

1. Chuck out all those cheap crappy tapes you purchased to save a buck. Get JVC or Panasonic.
2. Chuck out all those cheap generic batteries you purchased to save a buck. Get JVC
3. DO NOT STORE OR TRANSPORT THE CAMERA WITH THE FILM IN, OR THE BATTERY ATTACHED!
4. ONLY AFFIX BATTERY AND FILM IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO USE. Keep both in their proper containers.
if that doesnt work
i'll tell you the secret. the moisture sensor is a little black square on the side of the drive motor. if you look directly where the tape goes in, the drive motor is in the far back left. it's partially hidden behind a silver pin hanging down from the black plastic cover that goes over the video head. take a long q-tip and dip it in glass cleaner(windex etc) and gently wipe it off. you should see a small amount of black guck on the q-tip.
then remove power for about one minute and allow to dry. it's better to use air to dry it out.

Hi - the CD tray cannot open. It is empty - no CDs in there. I hear a buzz, but an "error" message comes on. I tried pushing on the tray while turning on; I unplgged the CD player, I put it on...

The loading tray belt has more than likely stretched or snapped.
The buzzing you hear will be the motor spinning freely.
The 'ERROR' message will show up because the tray isn't opening
and activating the 'tray open' switch, therefore the 'tray closed' switch
is permanently activated after the 'open/close button is pressed.

My camera wont charge in the tray or the charge light won't come on. Camera keeps saying low battery.

My guess is that with the age of the battery it isn't able to hold a charge anymore which means you'll need to purchase a new battery. Your best bet for that will be to go through Sony or the website Dr. Battery.

My DVD tray on my Yamaha DV C6480 (it holds 5 DVDs) got stuck in the half open half closed position. It may have come off the track. I opened the case and reinstalled the DVD Tray. Now the tray...

This happens to us all the time. Here is the note I keep on how to fix it quickly:
When tray gets messed up, the drive wheel (with pegs that interlock with pegs on the tray) needs to be such that the tray slides in and out freely. Push tray all the way in. Turn on.

Hope that gives a hint.

DCR-HC42 will not load Mini DV

Have you all tried using a new battery? It happened to me before where I would try and load the tape and the motor just hung and wouldn't allow the tape to fully go in. I tried to recharge the battery to see if that was the problem and even left it plugged in but camcorder appeared to still be weak. I think went to Wolf's camera and asked if I may if a bigger batter would feel weird with my current camcorder (I just said that so I could see if I could borrow a new battery and see if it would fix the problem). When I installed the new battery, it loaded the tape with no problems.

Try it and tell me if it solves the problem.

Cassate tape will not eject from my Canon ZR85 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

I found a temporary solution for this problem. When the tray with the cassette tape comes out remove the battery so that the tray will not go inside again. Now on top of the tray it will be written as "PRESS" just adjucent to it you can see a spring connected to the tray just press the string down wards and the tray opens and you can replace the battery. Hope this can help.

Error Message Reconect Power even if power is connected

It sounds like the tape door is out of alignment, causing stress on the tape and the inside mechanical system.  Requires a visit to the service shop.
