Do you have another computer that you can hook it up to? Sometimes windows can cause problems like this. It's not a definite solution but plugging it into a Mac or Linux machine just might allow you to pull the pictures off. Do know that IF you re-format, you will lose ALL data found on the drive. Respond to this with your Operating System and anythings you have tried to do to troubleshoot your computer and I'll be happy to help you some more.

SOURCE: My hard drive Maxtor do not recognize.I have many important data

this might be possibly because of jumper set up, try to interchange the jumpers. if it doesn't work then it might be a disk crash.
for a disk crash, rup the hard disk with a polythene paper such that no moisture can get into it, then place it in a freezer overnight. after that you connect it back to the computer and back up the data as fast as possible , because it might crash again.

You could check that the backup software settings are pointing to the correct drive. (I've made this mistake before).

My book hard drive won't read

1. First try to use another usb cable. If it still won't work.
2. Try plugging it into another computer. If it still won't work.
3. Try removing the hard drive from your BOOK HARD DRIVE, and plugging it directly to your computers desktop SATA socket using a SATA cable. If it works, backup all the data of your BOOK HARD DRIVE and then delete the partition and make a new partition and then format it.

I have a 320 gb acclaim portable hard drive. My mac doesn't read it, the first time I plugged it the lap asked me if I wished to format it and I said yes. Now it doesn't read it, what can I

You formatted the hard drive on your laptop in NTFS and the MAC cannot read and write to this formatted NTFS hard drive.
THE FIX
Format the hard drive using your laptop BUT this time format it in FAT32.
The MAC can read and write to a FAT32 formatted hard disk, so now you can exchange data between the MAC and the Windows laptop.

Won't come up on the Mac desktop when plugged into

your drive is simply has a file system called NTFS which is developed by Microsoft and sometimes can not be read by Mac OS.
All you need to do is reformat it to FAT32, a file system that will work on both PC and Mac. It will also remove all your data, so do this only if you want to delete all your data. Here is a video that explains how: http://youtu.be/G28pBo9N5uM (in the video he converts his drive to a Mac format, all you need to do is change the "format" drop down to "FAT32" or "Windows"
There is a more complicated way of doing this without deleting all the data. So here is a video that explains how to do that: http://youtu.be/et3RLTIaCdI If you would like me to explain the second option the please let me know
hope this solves your problem :)

I can't get my Simple tech mini 250GB to work Please Help!

Basically external usb drives are all the same. They have a usb interface and a drive interface. What happens is the usb interface usually dies after a while. The hard drive and your data are perfectly fine but you can't get at it.

There a re a few ways to fix this. One you can send to a data recovery center and spend $500 plus to get your data. You can sometimes send it in to the manufactuer but they don;t garrentee anything. Or you can buy a new external USB drive enclosure and put the drive out of yours into the new enclosure.

The drive inside is a standard laptop or small format harddrive. Absolutely nothing special about them. The hardest part of this is actually figuring out how to get the original enclosure apart. Once you get it open (or the tech does) then you just unplug the power and dat and remove any mount screws (maybe 4) and then revrese all of that into the new enclosure. Plug it in and you will have your data back. Thats all there is to it.

There are a couple of things to watch for. One is you may need a drive adapter dpending on what size or format of hard drive is in there. These are just a $3 cable adapter. The other thing is the odd enclosure formats or acesses the drive a differant way. If this is the case then waht you will need to do is get the same type of enclosure and move the drive. This is a bit more annoying and expensive but still cheaper than the data retrieval service by far. Even worse case you should be under $200, if its a normal usb setup then can be $20 plus labour.

Anyway don't panic your data should be fine.

You have ruined the file integrity of the flash drive, There is a very slim chance that you will recover any data off of the drive. Most flash drives only have a read/write of about 8,000 to 9,000 times so depending on how much you actually used the drive, it is possible it finally went bad. To format the drive try going to my computer and right clicking on your cruzer drive letter and click format. "ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED WITH THIS OPTION"

I am having an issue with my WD5000h1u-00 500 GB external drive

Read this instructions my friend
It is possible to use a Western Digital external hard drive on botha PC and a Mac. However, there are some things to keep in mind if youwant to do this. Moreover, Western Digital does not recommend doing it.
  • For both PC and Mac to be able to read the drive, it must beformatted in the FAT32 file format. In order to format to FAT32 on aMac you may need to contact Apple for support. We do have a FAT32Formatting utility for Windows that reformats WD external hard drivesto their full size, but in only one partition. The FAT32 formattingutility can be downloaded from our Downloads Library. You will find it on your WD drive's Downloads page.
  • Critical: Do not attempt toconnect any external drive to multiple computers, simultaneously; letalone to both a Mac and PC. This could quickly damage the drive'spartition and corrupt the data on the drive.

  • Sometimes, PC's won't read Mac FAT32 formatted drives, andMac's won't read PC FAT32 formatted drives. You may have to re-formatthe drive trying both the PC and Mac until you get a format that works.

  • Most WD external hard drives come pre-formatted with one large FAT32 partition, which is accessible by Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, and Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5.

  • Windows 2000, XP and Vista can only create FAT32 partitions that are 32 GB's or smaller.

  • Mac 10.4 and 10.5 can create FAT32 partitions the full size of the drive.

  • There is a 4 GB file size limit on the FAT32 file format. Thisis a file system limitation that affects both Mac's and PC's, and thereis no way around it.

  • Finally, you need to understand that if you are using the samedrive back and forth between a Mac and PC, there is always the chanceof files being corrupted. Mac's and PC's are different platforms, andtheir file systems function differently. Please keep backups of allyour files before you start sharing between Mac and PC computers.

Note: Once the data iscorrupted, that drive may no longer be recognized by one or both of thecomputers. Or, the drive may be recognized, and the data may bevisible, but you won't be able to open any files. At that point, youwill need to re-partition and reformat the drive in order for it to berestored and usable by both computers again. In the process, you willlose all the data on the drive. For that reason, you need to keep abackup of the files you are transferring between computers. At the bottom of the page, you will find links for partitioning and formatting in Windows XP and Vista, and Mac 10.4 and 10.5.
