DVD recorder model DMR-ES30V

When I turn the DVD on I get a rubbing or groaning sound from the DVD when the disc is in. At times it will freeze during play & then stop. If I am recording a program the same time as watching a recorded program, the recorded program will stop & it goes to the one being recorded. Just lately I scheduled a program & it didn't record.

I know this is very late to reply, but here it goes anyway. The groaning sound if from the DVD disc slipping on the drive spindle. There is probably a buildup of particles on the rubber surface of the spindle, probably from the DVDs themselves. Remove the metal cover from the unit. Then remove the 4 screws from the top of the black plastic drive and lift off the top. Locate the drive spindle in the middle of the drive and carefully wipe the rubber ring surface on the top surface of the spindle. Use a clean piece of cotton dampened with alcohol. Then install the drive top panel and metal unit cover. You wioll need to repeat this periodically whenever the groaning symptom reappears.

DVD-RW discs are ideal for temporary video recording and data backup, but they are not recommended for successful finalising, as there is no guarantee that the disc will work in another device.

Have you tried using DVD-R discs? these CAN be recorded in video mode AND finalised for compatible playback in other players. I assume the DMR-ES30V is a DVD/VCR combo unit - if so, the DVD recorder will not recognise RW discs; only DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

DVD-R discs are recommended for video recording and finalising in this model. (later model Panasonic DVD recorders allow RW disc recording).

Panasonic DVD recorder #DMR-EH65. It will accept a blank dvd then go into read,I can hear the lens assembly go back and fort several times,then it says disc error.Did the lens life expire?

Hello timmy: The recording process on the dvd recorder side is done is done by a seperate lens from the playback, so there could be something wrong with the writable side of the optical assembly, another thing to consider trying is the cleaning disc if you haven't tried this, another brand of blank disc and finally a firmware update is available from panasonic for the specific model you have, I don't know if you have updated it but here is the overall description: DMR-EH55 DVD Recorder Firmware Update
  • Version UP-317
  • Compatible Models DMR-EH55S
  • Issues Addressed Issues Addressed
    1. Corrects DVD Recorder hang-up or freezing during DVD playback caused by connection to Scientific Atlanta cable box model # 3250.
    2. Resolves U71 error message caused by HDMI connection to Philips TV.
    3. Improves DVD-Video playback of DVD+RW discs.
    4. Prevents DVD Recorder from turning on Panasonic TV's power by HDAVI control (EZ Sync) when connected with HDMI at completion of copying or finalizing.
    5. Resolves SET CLOCK MANUALLY tab being grayed out after a power failure.
I hope this is helpful and the update is available from panasonic.com, all you need is to type the model number in the search windows after you click the support option. Thanks!

Dmr-ES30V Dvd plays pre record movies fine but I

Try a different brand of blank dvd+r or -r. you will find that your dvd machine is fussy on what discs it plays. More exspensive dvd players are fussy with what dvd discs you put in, as cheaper dvd players would virtualy play most types of dvds.

    DMR-EZ48V- DVD drive not working

    Check Panasonic.com for Firmware updates. If it has a reset button reset it. Take off the cover remove dust and lint, also clean laser eye with rubbing alcohol. DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE LASER LENS IF YOU PLUG IT IN, DURING THE OPERATION.

    My Dad recorded all his VHS tapes and made DVD's on the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V and now they wont play on any DVD player except for the DMR-ES30V. I believe he recoreded them with a lock so they...

    Hi and welcome to FixYa,

    My compliments to the foresight of your father. Your described concern is not caused by a "lock". It is indicative that the recording session was not 100% completed. Rather than 'crack', what is required is the final step in the recording. All the DVDs must be "finalized" in the same machine that recorded the movies, the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V. The finalize option would be in the MENU/Settings and must be enabled. Finalization per disc would take some time.

    Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

    PANASONIC DVD RECORDER

    Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

    Since both are record capable:
    • hook the Video and Left/Right Audio OUT of the DMR-ES30V to one of the composite/matching INPUT of the DMR-EX88;
    • use the DMR-ES30V as a player and the DMR-EX88;
    • to be able to watch and monitor the output, temporarily hook up the OUTPUT of the DMR-EX88 to the INPUT of the TV.
