Its cool that you physically upgraded your memory, however there is a compatability issue with xp 32 bit as well as vista 32 bit operating systems. If you switch up to a 64 bit operating system xp or vista....it will solve your problem...However if you do and your processor doesnt support 64x you wont be able to run the 64 bit operating system, so check for compatibility before you spend your $$$

Any 32bit OS can only read up to 3.5GB of RAM. In order to read additional ram you must have a 64BIT OS.

My DG41TX works perfectly with dual core processors, but with core 2 duo not, do 3 beeps and dont show any video, what i must do?? my core 2 duo is E8400 my dual core is E2180 Bios Version:...

The POST beep code - 3 short beeps mean RAM failure.
Try reseating the RAM modules.
If this does not solve your problem then remove all the RAM modules and insert one RAM module at a time into memory slot 0 (1st memory slot) to determine which is the faulty RAM module.

What is maximum ram i can install in Asus U50F laptop and what kind

Asus U50F has 2 memory slots (204-pin SODIMM).

Each memory slot can hold DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 PC3-10600 with a maximum of 4GB per slot
for a total of 8 GB ram.

Running a 1 gig stick and a 512mb stick, system only shows 896mb, apparently not recognizing all of the ram installed?

I assume that you've booted the computer with _ONLY_ the 512MB stick installed, and that the computer recognized it (reporting either 512MB or 384MB), i.e., the 512MB RAM is not "defective".

Hmm. 1024 minus 896 is 128.
So, the "integrated-into-the-motherboard" video-card is "stealing" 128MB of your RAM, to be used strictly for "video" purposes, leaving 896MB for Windows to use.

Now, about the "missing" 512MB of RAM.

1. If you have four slots for RAM, and they are physically arranged into two pairs of two slots, rather than four equally-spaced slots, your motherboard is capable of "dual-channel" mode. But, since your two sticks of RAM are not "matched" (size, speed), you _MUST_ insert both sticks into _ADJACENT_ slots (not slots 1/3, nor slots 2/4), in order to run your RAM in "single-channel" mode.

2. If you have two slots for RAM, interchange the two sticks, to see if that makes a difference.

Acer Extensa 5620Z will not work with more than 2GB RAM??

parrotheadpc is incorrect in stating "you can only have a total of 2048 mb installed".

the 5620Z accepts 2 x 2 GB SODIMM RAM, the machine boots and shows the full 4 GB in the BIOS.

the full 4 GB works with the Ubuntu x64 installer.

Windows XP x32 goes BSOD on startup.

Windows 7 x64 install from DVD fails with same BSOD error.

conclusion: this is a Windows-Extensa 5620Z incompatibility that would require a fix by ACER at the BIOS level.

question: there may be specific memory modules 2 x 2 GB which do work--anyone have it work with Windows?

Memory ram

nope, 1 slot can only accomodate 2gb of ram. and also take NOTE that 4gb can only be read if the windows is running 64bit ,now if the system is running 32bit and there are 4 gb of ram installed on the system . The system will only read 3 or 3.5 gb of ram.

Installing Memory

put the new ram in slots 2 and 4.

Slots 1 & 2 are channel 1 slots 3 & 4 are channel 2, you need matching sets in each channel to run dual channel mode.

2 x 2GB Kingston CL5 detected as 1 GB each one

Ok, I got it, Ur motherboard supports upto 8GB DDRII Dual channel

Try using these RAMs on other slots of the board to check if there is a problem with RAM Slot (As there are four slots on ur board).

If no success, try using RAMs on some other system to confirm whether problem is with RAM or Motherboard.
