USB memory stick won't open.

I have a Lexar USB memory stick. Suddenly, it won't open. (My Mac doesn't recognise it). How can I recover the stuff on it?

    Thanks, Ginko.
It won't open on a Mac or a PC. (On one PC I got the message "New Hardware Detected" but then it said it couldn't open).
    Is there any hope?
    Peter

The easiest way to do this is to take it to another computer and recover the files there. Then you can re-format your USB drive easily from a windows machine by right-clicking on the drive (in my computer), then clicking format and selecting FAT file system. You can then put your original files you saved on the other computer back on your flash drive and this should solve your problem.

Test the USB on a different computer, PC or Mac.

If the stick is working on a different computer, remove mac battery (if macbook) and unplug mac from power.
This can fix problems related to electrostatic charges on USB connectors.

If that does not work, then the USB is corrupted.

You may have lost your data, If memory is not even detected by Mac and computers, then the recovery software does not work.

Computer doesn't recognise memory stick pro duo 4gb

Hello Guys,

The computer sometimes doesn't recognize the memory stick device due to corruption, there are numerous causes for memory stick corruption for example virus attack, improper removal, wrong usage of the memory stick device and many more. After such corruption scenario data are lost from these devices, but luckily you can recover memory stick files by using an efficient recovery application like Yodot Photo Recovery. Apart from memory stick the tool also recovers files from all other devices like memory stick, hard disk, iPods, music players etc. Try using this tool to recover your data from memory stick

Some computers will not support a large 8GB stick. The best some will do is 2GB, If you are running a computer pre-2001, you may not be able to use the 8GB stick (I have the same problem with my desktop PC). It just is not supported!

Mac won't recognise canon drive

First of all, do not save any new file to camera's memory card.

Take out memory card, and connect it to a Windows computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
Download this camera photo recovery software

Install and open the photo recovery software, select the memory card, and click 'Start' button.

If it says that the files are probably gone, sorry. Try using it on a different system, if it says the same thing they are definitely gone. Good luck I hope it works on a different system.

Lexar memory stick

Hello,
This device should be plugged into any computer that has USB ports to plug into. Usually, you plug it in and you will see something pop up in the bottom right corner of the screen about installing usb drive. When it is done installing (usually takes about 1 minute), you can open My Computer and see it in there as a removable drive. Open it and save your files directly in there by copy and paste or drag and drop.

Thanks,
Lolita

Bent lexar secure II usb drive - how to recover data?

I would suggest using a program like data rescue: http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/index.htm
They have a trial version which you can use to at least tell you if the files are recoverable - to recover the files you will likely have to pay for the product, but at $29 it's probably worth it for your information!
