We have a 15 year old 60 inch rear projection TV, repaired a couple of times. Now after about 4-6 hours of use the picture has a large black line on top and shortly after the screen goes dark, like covered by black line (sound remains good). After we turn it off for an hour, picture is normal again. Very good picture when working. Trying to figure out what's wrong, if I can repair (can take unit out), if worth it to repair? Thanks
The picture tube, a cathode ray tube, needs 33 KV to operate. The three coils attached to tube(inside) have weakened, maybe due the HT transformer, these 3 coils are for the 3 primary colors, i.e. RGB. The TV being 15 yrs old it has already lasted more than its lifetime capacity, measured by how many hours its working (usually 10000 to 15000 Hrs) so I would defenitely suggest a new one, 'cos there very few technicians who are still able to repair it. Soon parts will become unavailable, then you will have to buy a new one..........sodeep
This is due to faulty IC's or STK's. It is a convergance issue.
