When I make a copy on my printer I get a half inch black line down the middle of the copy. What I do to rectify this problem?

First pull out the ink cartridge. On the bottom, you'll find a metallic strip that looks like aluminum. Gently clean off any ink on it with a soft damp cloth. Then look at the rollers that feed the paper through and clean any ink off those that you see.

When I am faxing to someone my outgoing fax comes through with a line running down the middle. How can I fix this?

Hi. Try to open the cover for the scanner bed. You'll see 1 big glass and 1 small strip of glass on the left side. The big glass is used for scanning using the scanner bed. The small strip is used when paper is going through the feeder. Wipe the glasses thoroughly with a soft cloth. Hope it's just a dirt that's causing the problem. Good luck!

I have a riso 4200 and a 4900 that have been setting for a while, when I try to make a master it doesn't make all the copy it has white strips around the ink drum. How do I clean the drum so I can use them...

Since your machine doesn't used long time. This causes the consistency of the ink very loose and it will not go into the drum. Just replace with new ink and try to make several print by making several master and the pump unit will start filling it up. If you know how to go to service mode just use testmode 101. This will help to pump the ink inside by using just one cut of master.

When I make a copy I get a strip down the middle that does not copy.

if yo are using the documen t feeder check the smalll glass that the paper passes over to see if there is any tipex or ink marks on it if the copy is done off the glass plate and no line appears or if you are printing to the machine and it doesnt appear then it is usually down to the smalll **** glass or it could be a bit of dust on the mirrors on the scanner unit..Hope this helps Good Luck A>>

Printing works fine but copying or faxing results in large black lines across the whole page

You have a dirty scanner glass strip. If you open the cover like you are going to scan a book on the lft side you will see a strip of glass separate from the larger piece. This glass is the area use when you use the paper feed assembly. Dampen a piece of paper towel with window cleaner and wipe the glass strip. You may need to clean it several times if there is dried ink or something on it. Allow about 2 minutes to dry and then copy or scan something and it should be much better.

I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.

Having a problem copying in colour only prints about half the page and stops and says 502 hardware error but willprint out in black

I found this on after some digging.

Try this:

Hardware Error 0502 on LCD Display ID:ENUS16536

Check the encoder strip on the printer. (This is a clear strip running the length of the printer, above or behind the cartridge carrier.) Do the following:

1. Switch off the printer using the power button.
2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the Lexmark X5100 / X6100 Series.
3. Leave the power cable disconnected for 30 seconds.
4. Slide the cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer by taking the top part of the belt and moving it gently to the right.
5. Take out both cartridges.
6. Place an index finger on the encoder strip on either side of the cartridge carrier.
7. On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. Slightly push the encoder strip down and then back up to get it into the slot.
8. Lightly press the strip first to the rear and then forward, if necessary.
9. Clean the encoder strip with a dry tissue. Also clean the contacts of the printer. If this does not clean these parts, a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol on it may be used.
10. Reconnect the power cable and switch the printer on again.
11. Perform the hardware test without cartridges first and then with both cartridges.*
12. Make a standalone copy.
13. If the copy is satisfactory, repeat the test once to confirm that the error is gone.

That's the best I can give you.  Quite sorry if it doesn't work.

I will give you all the reasons I can think of.
1, If the line is only there when running through a document feeder and not there off the glass. The small strip of glass directly under the document feeder is dirty.
2. The drum has a scratch on it, or the cleaning blade is not cleaning the drum properly. Would require that cartridge replacement.
3. The fuser roller may be work in the middle. You would notice some reprinting , or ghost copying if that were bad.
4. Less likely would be some piece of fuzz in the light path, or a small piece of paper or tape in the paper path smearing the ink across the page.
If your machine prints, see if the line is on a print, if its on a print and not on the copy then it is scanner related.
