Question about SimpleTech Signature Mini 160GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Dark Blue Blueberry

Open Question

Simpletech 160gb will not read on the computer

The drive was fine yesterday, I had it plugged in and was listening to music stored on the drive, then I unplugged everything from my hub (kinda on accident, I just wanted to unplug my other hd, but i mixed up the cords) and plugged this one back it and it would not read and show up on the computer, the blue light that indicates activity will not light up. I can hear the drive spinning, but it won't do anything but sit there.

I would guess you are useing USB.
If correct, try a differant USB port.
The USB port you are useing may not be configured for USB2 speeds.

SOURCE: Simpletech 160GB has a constant

Last hope attempt: dismantle the casing and extract the actual disk from inside it; put it in a desktop and see if it's recognized there. If even that fails then the disk is dead, time for a new one.

The BKF file is only a reference to allow the XP os to know what program opens which file. It doesn't contain photos or music or documents.

How to put songs on The Simpletech Drive?

Just plug the Simpletech in the old computer that has the songs on it. Your computer will recognize the Simpletech drive. You can copy (from your old computer) and paste your songs to the Simpletech drive. Maybe all the songs you want will be in your My Music folder under My Documents. If so, you can just copy the whole My Music folder to the Simpletech.

Once you have the songs on the Simpletech, you can now plug it into the new computer. You can copy an paste from the Simpletech to your My Music Folder on the new computer.

You can also use the drag and drop instead of copy and paste.

Does the drive power up? Can you hear the drive spinning? If not, you may need a new power supply. If you can, try another cable or try another computer.

External HD not recognizing USB ports as being Hi-speed ports

I have the same issue. I have 4 Simpletech Signature 250GB drives. They all worked fine at first. After about six months two of them started connecting at USB 1 speeds. It occurs on 4 different computers!!! The post about it being the computer assumes is wrong. How can it work fine for six months and then suddenly change. Also it occurs on different computers. I have submitted a tech support request with simpletech and will post the results.

Simpletech hard drive

Your desktop usb compatibility is not supported your 160GB. The only way to attach you 160GB is to make it secondary partition to your primary drive by opening the CPU and attach it to your IDE cable.

Don't force yourself if you cannot do it by yourself just leave it to the expert. Probable cause to damage your hard drive if it is not installed properly.

Please rate me solved if you like my solution.
