Have you tried the master reset?

plug it in to the usb port on your computer for a few hours.if that fails, then try the master reset.

note: that the master reset will erase all your saved data

with the unit off,and unplugged, try pressing and holding your finger on the low right corner of the screen and slide the power switch to the on position until you see the message "confirm if you really want to delete all user data?" hit yes and let it restart. then it will set up the nuvi again, so follow the prompts.

if that fails, hook up the nuvi to the web updater and get the latest update.

download the updater HERE

(actually i would do this either way)

        Charge your 720
for about 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging
light on your device is on.

        Remove your SD card
        If you have one

        Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something
similar, push the reset button for 15 seconds.

        Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5
        seconds.

        Insert the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD
        card
After you reset it, try and hook up to tomtom home again and get the
    latest update

My tomtom gets stuck on a destination and I cannot plan another route. Have tried turning tomtom off and on again to no effect. Problem clears itself after several days.....

It may help to do an update on your item to fix any problems.
You'll need to download the tomtom home software, which should guide you through the process.
You can download the software from Tomtom.com at the following address:

Hope this helps.

I have a 276C and have a marine charts card in it for navigation. When I have the GPS hooked up to my lap-top, it there a way to view the marine chart on my lap-top screen? I would think this would be a...

Hi!

You require a chart navigation or free viewer program on your laptop to decipher the information your GPS sends and to interface with it.

There are a few of these programs available, but we opted to purchase CAPN Voyager (The CAPN) many years ago and have been quite happy with it for the 16,000 miles of coastal cruising we've done. The program allows us to see our progress in real time on the computer screen and is easy to use

Prior to that, we used Maptech's free chart viewer which allowed me to plan routes and then put the lat/lons into the GPS unit, but had no interface with the GPS to allow us to navigate in real time.

Hope this helps.

How do I set the GPS so it shows me the best route on main roads and not all the side, gravel and dirt roads

Click Tools.....Settings.....Navigation...

I like Faster Time.... you can change it to Shorter Distance or Off Road
depending on your gps

On Avoidances... I have it Enabled

click Avoidances.... I avoid U-Turns.....Traffic...Carpool Lanes...Unpaved Roads

click OK after your choices..

Good idea when you plan a route is to check it by arrowing down your map to make sure its the route you want to travel, if not go back to main page and click detour X to change route then you can save it if you like

Time of Day routing plan

What is the warning you are getting in the log?

You should be able to just " change time 4" and then blank out all of the fields to return the form back to it's default and as long as you have not added that time of day route plan into any of your COR's then you should not have any issues with it.

Tomtom - time of arrival

It is possible that you have the TomTom set for "walking routes" or "bicycle routes" or "limited speed." (I have a TomTom One 3rd edition, so if you have a different model the menus/icons may be different, but it's worth a shot.)

Click on the main part of the screen, while on the main navigation screen. Then click on "Change preferences." Then click the blue arrow to scroll to the Preferences 3 of 5 page. Click on "Planning preferences." Choose the planning preferences that you want. Hope this helps...

Dell Axim + Tomtom. Routeplanning error

The error during planning is a map error not an OS error. It will give you this warning if you try to nav somewhere that it cant see any way of getting to because there is a gap somewhere en-route. Normally its the last 100 yards or something. The workaround is to nav to an adjoining road or somewhere very close to where you want to end up. Oddly or maybe coincidentally (which I doubt at 60,000 miles per year) I have only had this happen on the new maps.
