Use ERD Commander if your CD-ROM is working you will be able to boot the PC using this tool then check a few critcial checking steps.

http://rapidshare.com/files/251960002/ERD_Commander_2005.zip

If this doesn't work you will only be able to enter the recovery console if you installed it before the BSOD using your Windows CD or I386 cab files.

Hindsight is a great thing but for future reference its a good idea to create a drive image using Norton Ghost of Drive Image.

The pc starts and loads. Then the blue windows xp screen comes up and it wont do anything else exept let me move my mouse pointer around the screen

Restart your computer and then press and hold F8 keys until you get Advanced Options menu screen.Use the arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, and then press Enter, your computer will boot automatically to safe mode.
If you able to start in the safe mode then you need to update all your drivers and install all windows updates from Windows update and scan your computer for viruses! And I also suggest you to run CMD as administrator and write in CMD without quotes"sfc/scannow"
this will fix blue screen error.
If problem still exists, then get the reliable program like PC Fresher to fix your annoying blue screen problem.

My daughters desk top computer will boot up when I press f1 and then it shuts down and brings me back to a black screen and tells me to hit f1 and reboots. When the windows does come up I dont have time to...

Remove the battery from the motherboard and check that it has 3volts or above. if not then replace it. That will cure your pressing F1 to continue all the time. As for the restarts then you will need to turn off Automatically restart in the control panel, system section. To do this you will need to boot into safe mode. Tap the F8 while booting until you get a black screen with white type on it. Its first option is to boot into safe mode. hit enter on this screen and windows will start with no drivers loaded. the screen will appear very large. navigate to the control panel as mentioned above and untick "automatically restart". Ok that and reboot normally. now you will most probably get a blue screen of death. note the first stop code. it will appear something like 0x000000??. Its the last two digits that are the clue to why this is happening. Google the stop code and you will now know why this is happening and do something to stop the problem.

Looks like your master boot record is corrupted or you have a bad hard drive. Without cd drive there is one option but it is not guarantied it will work. You can acctually make USB flash drive bootable but you need another computer with cd drive and an XP Operating System CD. You can google how to make usb flash drive bootable for XP and it will give you step by step instructions. Or you can borow an external cd drive or take it to pc repair store. Good luck.

Harmony 890 remote has solid blue screen

Try putting the remote in 'safe mode' before doing the firmware update. I can't think of anything else you can try, but 'safe mode' --> Firmware update often does the trick. Here's how:

Launch the Logitech Remote software on your computer and click on "Downloads" (on the top menu bar). Then, take the battery out of your remote and at the same time you connect the USB cable to your remote (it should be already connected on the computer end) press and hold down the Off button at the top of the remote. This will put the remote in "safe mode". Continue to hold down the Off button until you see the message "safe mode requested" on the remote's screen and the screen starts blinking. Now, since your screen is not behaving properly, you may or may not see this message, but after about 5 seconds you can release the Off button. Now, go back to your computer and click on "Firmware". If the software is able to communicate with the remote, an update to the remote's firmware should be executed. This has solved many a 'blue screen of death' problem. Good luck!

My computer allways restarts after a blue screen in windows. what can be the problem ?

This is what we refer to as a blue screen of death. This generally means Windows is damaged or has bad configuration.

If you recently changed something in Windows such as installing a new hardware device please disconnect and reboot.

If you installed new software you will want to put your computer in to safe-mode to uninstall it.
  1. Turn off your computer
  2. Turn the computer back on
  3. After the beep, continuously press and release F8 on your keyboard every 1 second
  4. You will be prompted with a list of boo-up options. The options vary depending on which OS you are running.
  5. Choose SAFE MODE
  6. Once your computer boots up, click Start, then settings, then control panels
  7. Open Add/Remove programs and uninstall anything you installed before the issue occured
If this issue just happened without any changes try these steps
  1. Turn off your computer
  2. Turn the computer back on
  3. After the beep, continuously press and release F8 on your keyboard every 1 second
  4. You will be prompted with a list of boo-up options. The options vary depending on which OS you are running.
  5. Choose Last Known Good Configuration
  6. Windows will attempt to do a simple restore of its configuration files
If all of the above fail your best option is to talk to a PC technician in your area.

Does your desktop comeup and give any time before it shutdowns, say 1 minute or something like that,
You can log into safe mode and do system restore by pressing F8 once you power on the computer, but you need to keep on pressing till you see the safe mode option.

Windows xp logo will start to load then......

To solve this will require more information from you. The Blue screen is Windows way of telling you that it has a driver issue with a basic component, usually your video card. Did you recently make any hardware changes? If so please let me know what was changed.

When windows first boots, you can repeatedly press the F8 key until you see a menu giving you choices of windows booting. You need to select Safe Mode. Safe mode should allow you to at least boot without a blue screen. The blue screen could also be cause by a virus or other software.

Microsoft has a description of Safe mode here;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222
but here is a quick snippet
To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
  2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
