No your problem is the G/BOX
As when you push the clutch pedal in it stops the centre plate of the clutch which is fitted to the input shaft of g/box, and when clutch pushed in it stops turning, so the g/box stops turning Answer is....
Either the g/box input shaft bearing OR the layshaft (which lays in the bottom of the gearbox ) the beatings on that are worn out and also the shaft will be stuffed.
Sorry to tell you but the box has to come out ,stripped and rebuilt with new layshaft and bearings and any other parts worn,(but the l/shaft or input shaft bearing )have to be replaced ASAP
Let me know how you get on Ron

Should the release bearing on a 1275 midget be touching the pressure plate when not in use

No it shouldn't touch. You might want to check and see if the clutch plate was installed the right way. If clutch plates are installed backwards, this will cause the tongs on the pressure plate to be pushed out further towards the bearing. And will squeal.

GEARBOX 1995 USUZU MU 3.1 DIESEL

If the clutch is not disengaging when you put your foot on the clutch ( if the system has been bled correctly or cable fitted correctly ) then the problem is that the clutch plate is in the wrong way round and the clutch hub with the springs is hitting on the flywheel bolts

My 2001 polo 1.4 has a whine coming from gearbox. The symtems are. when driving it whines. if as driving you put clutch in and coast it stops completely. I thought it might of been a clutch or bearing...

Sounds like maybe a shaft bearing in the gearbox is the problem. Check the fluid level to be sure it at the proper level...you can also drain and refill if it's dirty...inspect the old oil for signs of metal shavings or a lot of glitter from gear wear. After driving a ways, touch the gearbox and see if it's excessively hot....all these will help you troubleshoot.

Hi There.
sounds like your release bearing has either collapsed or seized, either way you will have to drop the gear box and check it out... should'nt be a problem on a 1999 fiesta. just be careful not to pop a drive shaft and lose the transmission fluic on the floor.
Good Luck

Hi my rx8 is makin a grinding noise from the gearbox and the noise goes away wen foot is pressed on the clutch makes a noise wen drivin in 1st 2nd 3rd n 4th gear noise goes in 5th and the noise is there in...

What?! Really! The noise goes when the clutch pedal is depressed! So the noise goes when the release bearing (throw-out bearing) is engage? So how would that be a release bearing/clutch problem? If it didn't make a noise until the clutch pedal was depressed, it would be the release bearing! In other words its the input shaft bearing and/or counter shaft bearing in the gearbox. Stop giving people bad advice

I have a r reg megane scenic when i start it up the gear box is very noisy when i put my foot on the clutch and put it in gear the noise stops

Get a second opion, but it looks like the thrust bearing is on its way out. That'll probably involve changing the clutch as well. Do it soon or you'll wreck the gearbox.

I HAVE A SLIGHT PURRING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE... WHEN I PUT THE CLUTCH IN IT STOPS... ALSO WHEN IM IN 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD GEAR WHEN IM ACCELERATING THERE ISNT A GOOD SOUND FROM IT!! BUT ITS FINE IN 4TH AND...

This would be most likely the first noise of a wearing input shaft bearing. It will only get louder, and eventual failure of the bearing will probably mean catastrophic gearbox failure. It stops when you put your foot on the clutch because the gearbox stops spinning then, and it is quiet in 4th and 5th because there is no side loading (as there is in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) on the failing bearing. It wouldn't matter what sort of car it was, the gearbox should be overhauled as soon as possible.

Had new clutch fitted just over a year to my ford fiester freesyle 2002 1.250 when not in gear niose from clutch foot on clutch niose gon

It sounds like the classic symptoms of a worn clutch thrust bearing, although it could be another bearing in the gearbox that is causing the problem.

Hope this helps.

Shifting problems

It sounds like your spigot bearing has either collapsed or Seized. This is a small bearing that sits in the flywheel and has the primary shaft of your gearbox running in it. when you press the clutch this stops the drive to the primary shaft and it spins free in the spigot bearing, if this bearing in Seized then it will keep spinning the shaft and hence you get your grinding noise, it's like putting it into gear without putting your foot on the clutch. The reason you only get it in first and reverse is because these are the only two gears you select while stationary, try putting it into second gear and if you still have the same problem then it's your spigot bearing. If not then it will be you Synchromesh, your bulk rings will be worn and this will require a gearbox overhaul. Either way your gearbox will need to be removed, asked them to change the clutch while it's off because this is good practice to do if you are removing the gearbox.
