Replaced primer bulb and fuel lines, now it won't stay running

The blower starts fine , but to keep it running you have to hold the the choke in between full and half. I'm wondering which inlet on the fuel bulb gets the large fuel line. Also I may have put the fuel filter in the tank on the wrong line. I presently have the large line on the top inlet of the primer bulb and the filter (in the tank) on the smaller line. Where did I go wrong?

The smaller line is the supply to the carb. and should have the filter in the tank, with sufficient length to allow fuel pickup from the bottom of the tank. The larger line returns excess fuel and pressure to the top of the tank.By squeezing the bulb and watching the fuel lines you will be able to determine if you have them right on the carb.

I just replaced my fuel lines as well. The bottom inlet is for the smaller line, the feed. The larger line goes on the top inlet, the return.

I have a 15 hp 4 stroke that won’t stay running

If you press and continue to press the primer bulb in the fuel line will it continue to run ? Will it run with the choke on ? Possible causes. Air entering the fuel line at the tiny o ring on the fuel connector, does the primer bulb in the fuel line go hard when pumped ?

The little pump for gas does not wok

The primer does not necessarily need to work for the unit to run. It does have a choke to aid cold starts. However it is a good indication of something wrong in the fuel system. A primer bulb that does not return to shape or does so slowly indicates a clogged screen in the carb. Check the fuel filter and fuel lines. Replace the fuel lines if they are stiff or discolored, rebuild the carb and replace primer bulb.

Primer bulb not filling

Yes, I think the gas cap may be clogged. The gas cap must be able to breath, otherwise this vacuum will occur. Try starting your trimmer and when it starts to choke out, loosen the gas cap. It should get air back in the tank, then and keep running. If this works, clear the hole in the gas cap, or purchase a new one.

Motor will not start

For some reason the engine is flooded. To make it start do the following: turn the choke off, hold the throttle wide open and crank it until it starts.Do not push the primer bulb first. It already has more fuel than it can burn. It will smoke more than usual until it burns out the excess fuel. You may also have a carb problem but this should allow the engine to start so it can be diagnosed.
