Canon powershot A700 - Battery drains in few seconds

Hi I have this canon powershot A700. When I charge a new set of sanyo rechargeable batteries 2700, and put it in the camera, it immediately says in 4-5 seconds battery low and switches off in 10 seconds. I have tried with 3 new sets of batteries. What should I do.

SOURCE: CANON POWERSHOT A530 LOW BATTERY READING

We had the same problem and it was so very frustrating. We sent the Camera back for assesment and repair only to be told there was nothing wrong with it. The solution was so simple we felt like real dummies.

All you have to do is use Energizer Lithium Batteries, since we started using them we have not had a problem with Batteries going flat or that annoying Battery indicator flashing.

John

SOURCE: Canon Powershot A470 - asks to 'change battery'

This happened with my Canon Powershot A470. I sent it back to he manufacturer and they said I was using the wrong batteries. Even though the camera is supplied with two alkaline batteries, they recommend using AA NimH rechargable batteries.

SOURCE: my canon powershot sd 1200 wont turn on.

Hi,
Check whether your batteries are actually making contact with the battery posts, and that these posts are clean. If not, bend the posts up/down a little, and maybe clean them with a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip. Or if that does'nt work our for you , if your camera uses Compact Flash, check to make sure all pins are present and aligned in the card slot (if bent, simply unbend/straighten them with a skinny "jewelers" screwdriver, then insert the flash card for final realignment).

Thank you !!

Battery life-I put new batteries in and it lasted less than 30 minutes-maybe 20 pics before the camera stated replace batteries. Is there a reset-

If you are using alkaline batteries, you should switch to rechargeable NiMH batteries. I highly recommend the Sanyo Eneloop products. You should be able to get 300 to 400 shots before you need to recharge. Get two sets of four AA Eneloop batteries. Don't mix them. They hold their charge for a year and can be recharged a thousand times.

Unfortunately, this is not unusual with rechargeable batteries. The best thing you can do with a rechargeable battery is to fully and completely discharge it, and then recharge it fully. After that, there's nothing else you can do except buy a new battery. You can get brand new, unbranded ones on eBay for a fraction of branded ones, and they work great. Just buy from a seller with a good reputation, and you can't lose. I usually buy multiples and never run out of battery power this way.

My canon A710 says it needs batteries no matter

My A710 did exactly the same thing. Spoke to Canon support. According to them you have to use Canon 2500 mah batteries (quite expensive - need a different charger as well). I've just bought new rechargable batteries from Sanyo (Eneloop pre-charged). And it solved my problem. I've also changed the batteries quite a few times and it never worked. But this did solve the problem for me.

Battery dies fast

There is no setting, that sounds just like a faulty Li ion rechargeable battery. Test the camera with alkaline batteries , if it works fine get a replacement rechargeable battery. Ensure that batteries are fully charged first.

S2 suddenly draining batteries rapidly

I have the same exact problem. I just now read a possible solution: try opening the battery compartment door and then closing it again to "trick" the camera into thinking it just got new batteries. There is definitely something wrong with the way the camera senses dead batteries.
