Question about Computers & Internet

I have an HP Pavillion dv9500 laptop. After shutting down, all the keyboard lights to the right of the power button stay lit. This shows the power is not shut off but should be. Any solutions?

The laptop is on charge. However, the charge light for the batter is in the front of the laptop. The buttons to the right of the power button, after checking, are "quick play" related buttons. The computer is not downloading updates (this has been happening for weeks now). It also has been set to shut down to the best of my knowledge and not to hibernate. I have my computer connected to a home based wireless network. Not sure how that would be keeping these button lights on. I had another email answer addressing possible "quick play" setting issues. I think I will check into that next. Thank you for your feedback.

The buttons are related to "Quick play" and they do stay lighted when running on batteries. How would I correct or change the quick play settings?

    Thank you for your help.

The buttons to the right of the power button are associated with the quick play program that runs independently of any operating system. That means if you want to watch a movie or listen to music you can hit the cd or dvd button and the system will power up to play that media without running the operating system. If the laptop is still plugged into power from the AC adapter, some models will continue to display the quick play buttons, do these still light up after shut down when running on batteries? This may come down to a setting in the quick play program.

As long as there is power applied to the laptop, those lights are going to stay lit, that is just the way this model is. I have been looking for a registry fix for this but I have yet to find anything. I wouldn't recommend shutting quickplay down, because of there ever can a time when the cable that runs from the start button to the motherboard failed, you could always start your laptop up with the quickplay buttons. I have no answer to this as of this point in time.

First of all, is the laptop on charge? Usually when the laptop is on charge there is a light somewhere that remains on until it is charged. After charging, the light goes of and if the laptop is not used for a long time, the battery usually discharges a little and the system senses this and recharges it as top-up and the light comes on, then goes off once charged. If your laptop is not on charge, then there is 2 things that could be the cause. 1) It is not shut down properly (on stand-by). 2) It may be downloading updates and it would probably shut down later, depending on the size of the update, it may take a few minutes or up to 1 hour. If in 1 hour the light is still on, then there is a problem with the laptop and need to be checked by a professional, or, altermnatively, turn it off a second time and see if the light still remains on. Lastly, you did not state what kind of lights remain on, Power, Charging, Standby, etc. it is difficult to help you with your query as the problem could be the laptop itself. There are other things that could keep the laptop on, and that may be if your laptop is connected to a network. Regards.

I had a similar problem with my Pavilion dv1000 laptop at one stage and the only way to solve the problem was to remove QuickPlay. After I removed QuickPlay the laptop returned to normal. I am sure that networking connections are not part of this problem. If you do not need QuickPlay, go to START / Control Panel / Add-Remove, find QuickPlay and click Remove. Your laptop should shut down when you want it to shut down. If not, come back here and I'll ask a IT friend of mine. Also, I've never used QuickPlay and I am not sure what it is. I use Windows Media Player to view movie clips.

    Regards.

Simple replace the video card and be done with it. The video went out and froze up that is why you had to do the shut down the card right then. If you get another card that should solve the matter. That is all I would suggest to you at this time any loose parts remove them and located anything that is missing or should be there.

My HP Pav laptop just died (shut down on me) and wont turn on

1.remove the battery and disconnect the power cord from the laptop. 2.hold down the power button for 1 minute 3.now connect it only to the power cord.keep the battery away 4. as soon as you press the power button to turn it on, keep on tapping F8 key. 5. If you see advanced option, you can choose safe mode with networking and it hit enter. 6. now remove the security like Norton or macafee and scan it with malwarebytes(www.malwarebytes.com) 7. Now, restart the computer 8. If data is not important you can restore the computer to the factory setting, but all of the data would be lost. 9.to restore the xp computer start press F10 at the startup 10. to restore the vista computer start press F11 at the startup.

After shutdown of gateway laptop blue power button stays lit.....

Hi this sounds like your computer is in hibernation mode as opposed to shut down mode. Could you check and see as if running Vista many people assume that clicking on the brown power type selection under start that they are shutting down where as this actually only hibernation mode and clicking on the little arrow to the right of this and selecting shutdown is the way to go.
I hope this helps

From what you've described, it sounds like you are clicking the Standby button, instead of the actual shutdown option. On the Start button, you will see (from left to right); Left: Start Search Middle: Standby Middle: Lock Right: Arrow Clicking the arrow will show you the Shutdown menu option; http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/shutdown.jpg
