Question about Black & Decker 3 x 21 In. Dragster Belt Sander

1 Answer

I hve a Black & Decker DS321 belt sander, it has stopped collecting dust in the bag. The bag is empty and the exhaust from the sander is blowing air but the dust does not go into the bag. Instead it comes out the front end od the snder even though the dust bag is inflated. Is there a dust intake that I should find somewhere which perhaps is blocked? Please asvise.

Ron, I tried using the compressed air technique but no joy, the sander seems to have some hidden intake that I can't locate. The surprising thing is that the air outflow is good to the bag, so the problem seems to be with the dust pickup intake, but I cant seem to locate it.
Thanks, looking forward to your suggestions.

Sounds like you are correct in that it is clogged. All you should have to do is take off the belt and dust bag and use compressed air and blow out the sander and blow it back thru where the dust bag would be. After that reinstall the dust bag and belt and it should be fine. If you don't have a compressor for the air you can use the canned air you use for cleaning computer components.

Ryobi BE318-2 dust bag don't work

The pathway that the dust follows to reach the bag is most likely clogged. Take the bag off and look inside to see if there's sawdust plugging the orifice. If there is then you could vacuum out the dust or simply start up the sander and let the machine clear itself. If you do the latter just know that you will create a cloud of dust so do it in the proper environment.

Makita Belt Sander 9404 - dust collection bag not collecting the dust. Shooting dust out the front. What can be done to remedy this?

the tool needs cleaned thoroughly. there might be a section of a belt that has jammed the passageway. UNPLUG the tool and turn over to see on the backside if the clog is there, if not I would recommend using safety glasses and compressed air to blow thru the channels to dislodge the material. I havae also used a shop vac to help in this.

Black & Decker DS321 - ripped the rubber off the drive roller. Now got it in pieces, all cleaned up, but I dont see how to remove the driver roller from the Drive Shaft and belt guide assembley.

looked at a schematic and the drive roller screws onto the drive shaft, I don't see where is a locknut on the outside but the shaft is threaded, it moght be left hand thread. If there are 2 holes in the gear see if you can find a spanner wrench from a grinder and secure the roller and loosen the gear.

Bosch 3 x 21 Belt Sander

Remove the dust bag and unplug sander for now. Everywhere you see an access hole (fan area, dust port, back of sander blow thru the tool to remove lodged dust that clogged the system, Also look for broken belt pieces in the back of sander. Then while running (remove belt) blow again thru all the ports to try and reomve as much contamination as possible. When finished you can feel to see if air coming from dust bag port, it not you still have a clog that might need more work. If I have clarified your request would you please rate this response accordingly and thank you.

My DS321 belt sander had the large drive roller(and belt)came off on the first extended use. Looking at an IPB no thrust washers were found either.

I would recommend going to Dewaltservicenet.com and typing in your model number and on the next page find the type number for the tool. I took a guess and found 2 thrust washers for the DS321. Let me know if you need more assistance and I will try and help

Dust bag won't collect

Try blowing through the little **** that collects sawdust (inside back by belt) with a compressed air nozzle, with the bag off, and squeeze the trigger and let the motor run a little. Blow out the insides as well as you can, including the air intakes for the cooling of the motor, and it should work fine again.
You can also blow out the bag to clean the pore in the fabric.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!

Belt sander clogged dust collection

What have you been sanding?  Make sure the sander is unplugged. Remove the dust collector bag and use a flexible wire, like a coat hanger, to free the clogged material from the dust tube.  Replace bag and sand away!  Hope this solution works for you.  Michael Mittelsdorf
