Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1: Windows

Internet problems with Vista

My Cousin Has a Windows Vista & she's having problems with her internet connection. Either the ethernet cable is unplugged or she hasn't deleted her cookies. The reason I'm asking is because I haven't messed with Vista alot, but I know more about XP. Is there any other solutions besides ones I listed above or a website I can check Vista for diagnostics...if it comes down to that, I would very much appreciate it.

When you go there everything is simular to xp. Vista has a built in self diagnostic that you can use if needed. You should have little trouble for it sounds like you are familar with checking these things out. Just don't be afraid of it.

How do i get internet explorer to load so i can go on facebook

There are different options to diagnose the problem. Either:

* Check your network cable if it properly connected to the ethernet port
* restart your modem/router
* Check internet explorer if there is an available update.

Im using a 2Wire Gateway DSL connected via ethernet to a Mac G4, I also have a laptop running windows vista and it has strong wi-fi connection, sending packets at optimal levels and speed. BUT Problem

Vista has a well known flaw of not allowing you to easily change access rights after selecting "public network" in the initial network connection screens. The easiest fix is to change the name of your wifi access point, reconnect, and be absolutely certain to select "home network" when the prompt comes up.

The best solution however is to ditch that crummy excuse for an operating system and upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.

Have you reset the modem first then the router, after doing this restart computer. If you still can't get online: I would first bypass your router or hard wire (Plug Ethernet cable into router or modem) To make sure your computer is able to surf the internet. If you are able to get online, then i would go to Network & Sharing center and on the left side click on (Vista) "Manage Network Connections" and on (7 & 8) click on "Change adapter setting" - Left click on 'Wireless Network Connection' first click on diagnose and see if Windows can fix the issue. If it fixes the isse then your good to go. If it does not then Left click on 'Wireless Network Connection' and go to 'properties' - Check to make sure there is Check mark on -Internet Protocol Version 4 (Tcp/Ip4)- Highlight this (TCP/IP4) and click on Properties. You should have a dot on the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS Server address automatically. Try this first and if does not work let me know please put in what Windows your using and what browser and message your getting? And if you can get online by local area connection which is Ethernet hard wired connection?

For Windows XP you may re-install chipset driver, wrong driver may cause ethernet driver missed driver too
2006-03-24 , Version:7.2.2.1006 A, 1.07M <<< Chipset compaq presario v6000t ( Intel ICH7 ).
For Windows Vista : open device manager >>> update driver chipset > via internet or you can ask for the driver by personal.

A router is basically a mini-computer that splits up one internet connections to 4 (or whatever # of ports you have).

Basic Connections to a router:
A Router requires a internet connections, so your broadband modem must connect to the WAN port (theres only one) of the router DIRECTLY. Then Ethernet cables go from the router to the computers on the LAN ports. Don't do something weird like connecting your internet to your computer then your computer to the routers WAN port, it'll most likely mess up.

Once you have connected your router like this, it should work.

If your modem only has a usb port, I have no idea how to make that work out. Sorry. Try getting a new modem from your ISP, or check if your modem does have a ethernet port, if it does just connnect that to the routers wan port.

Also computers should not interconnect with each other with use of a router. Thats what the router is for. Everything gets connected and split up at the router, nothing connects to anything else but the router, basically.

-Desktop PC with Vista Home (Main PC, connected to Internet with Ethernet to a Linksys Wireless Router B and G).
-Get internet thru cable TV (broadband),from this cable modem plugs to router and from router to PC Vista(desktop)
-Linksys Wireless G/B Router
-G-Card for my Laptop Windows XP Pro and
-Playstation 3 capable of sharing info and use printer

At the moment all of them have internet w different IP's (000.000.0.001, 000.000.0.002,etc.). What I want to achieve is that I can use the Printer that is connected via USB to my PC Vista (desktop) and share files. Right now the only thing been able to do is that my PC Vista see my Laptop but Can't find my PC on my laptop. Anybody, Help?
-When I turn On my media sharing in my PS3, my internet on Laptop loses it while PS3 search and find, then, because laptop lost wireless, the PS3 looses the laptop and I get wireless back. I knowis a stupid setting but tired of workin back n forth. Thanks

Connecting modem via ethernet cable

I'm not an expert in window based units but since it worked with Vista OS and not with XP. Sounds like you might try re-installing XP again. Take note on any windows that refer to the ethernet port during installation. It is likely you might of hit "next" without reading all the text. I know I have in the past. I changed over to mac and I know longer have any problems only at work but give then I give it to the IT Dept and wait and wait and wait.
