Question about Bose Lifestyle 20 System

Open Question

What size screws do I need to fix Bose jewel speakers onto the small stands? I lost the original screws in a house move. The missing screws are the ones that fit downwards into the top of the speaker stand (through the casting that you mount onto the back of the speaker) I have a lifestyle 20 system bought in 2002 (in Hong Kong). The speaker stands are the short Bose stands that you use to mount the speakers on a shelf and came with the system. Thanks

No reset button. Simply unplug the power cord in the rear, wait 20 seconds and power back up.

SOURCE: Bose Cube Speakers separated

Ok…

I had the same problem with a Bose separated double-cube Acoustimass speaker/array but was able to fix it as follows:

Tools:
small, thin, flat-head screwdriver
large pliers
C-clamp

Instructions:
1. Disconnect the speaker wires from the cube.
2. Remove the grille from the top speaker cube. It just pops off.
3. Insert a small, thin, flat-head screwdriver around the perimeter of the speaker. You will have to pry lightly to break the glue’s seal.
4. Using a set of pliers (large, plumber-sized) wiggle the speaker until it comes free. You might need to grip it top to bottom and then left to right. The speaker will come free of the case.
5. Remove the white insulation to get a clear view of the dislodged brace/connector.
6. Stack the top and bottom cubes. Make sure that the rubber seal between the cubes is seated properly and that the black and white cables are not pinched.
7. Using the C-clamp, compress the brace/connector until it seats on one side. Loosen the C-clamp and compress the opposite side. The brace/connector should snap into place. Be sure the make sure that you do not pinch the speak wires that are running through the center of the brace/connector.
8. Test the articulation. It should be the same as your other speakers.
9. Replace the white insulation in the back of the speaker case.
10. Press the speaker into the case’s face. If you wish, you can apply your preference of glue to the edge of the speaker prior to pressing it into the case.
11. Snap the grille onto the speaker.
12. Connect the speaker wires to the cube and you are done.

You should be good to go.

SOURCE: Bose Lifestyle V20 Error 180

OK talked with Bose just a minute ago and they were able to correct the issue.

We disabled the power cord from the back of the media console (where the HDMI cables connect) and left it off for a minute or two.

Powered the media console back on and it is working as expected.

Was told by the Bose tech that the common reason for this issue is due to the use of the HDMI cables that have a propritary security protocol that is used between the media console and the component it is attached to (ie TV, Cable/Sat, BluRay ...ect).

I asked if there was a BIOS upgrade if it was indeed a "handshaking" issue and was told there was not one (yet).

If one becomes available, it will be shipped via mail on a CD\DVD that can be used in a CD\DVD player that is connected to the media console using the HDMI cable.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Adding Spaekers

If it's an original 321 system (series 1) then it has an audio output on the back. (via RCA jacks) You would still need an amp or receiver to connect the speakers to.. (unless they're powered speakers)
If it's a 321 series II or 321 series III- it does not have an audio output.
If the system has a DVD tray right in the middle of the media center, then it's a series 1.
Otherwise, you'd have to get a 1/8 splitter to come from your Mac's headphone output. (still- you will need an amp/receiver or powered speakers to have both 'rooms' playing the same thing from your computer)

I have a bose 321 system. When it is plugged in, I get a pop through the 2 small speakers. The 2 small speakers work but the large one does not.

The only way to fix this it must go to Bose. They repair on sight at the factory and replacements are original, there is no authorized centre other than Bose. I would go online and check for a phone number and find out about pricing and see if service is still possible.

Bose free space 51 speaker pair. 1 speaker stopped working. I disconnected non working speaker and hooked up at the working speaker wire and it still didn't work. don't know how to take it apart to...

In my case the speaker only played the higher frequencies but not the low mid range to base. Most likely your speaker is "blown". Outdoor use is hard on electrical components. The fix is easy. The free space 51 speaker is identical in size to the standard Bose 901 4 1/2" speaker. You can buy a Bose or a good quality knock off (either way they will need to be broken in before yielding the best sound). It is not clear to me whether the original Bose uses a special moisture resistant cone. I treated my replacement with a light coating of silicone spray (for upholstery) carefully protecting the foam surround and cap at the center.

Just unscrew the three screws holding in the plastic grill in front of the speaker (using a nut driver or socket wrench). The speaker will drop out. Be careful with the foam wrap around the wire as it tends to be fragile and greasy. Solder in the new speaker making sure you get the polarity right (although for outside use this is probably irrelevant). I would test the speaker in place before soldering just to make sure. Reassemble and break in the speaker. Again I don\'t know know well the replacement will weather the elements. Keep your finger crossed.

I have 5 bose jewel speakers. can I use one of them as center speaker? Second, can I use bose jewel speakers with Pioneer VSX-1020 AV receiver?

I imagine you could but you must consider their impedance (probably low) and make sure to manage the bass so it goes elsewhere. Define them as SMALL.

If you have multiples to use I'd recommend wiring two of them in series for the center to 1) increase the impedance and 2) move more air. Proceed cautiously with the setup and usage until you assess their ability to handle the power. Listen for any signs of stress.

Want to connect non-bose speakers to a bose lifestyle system

this is possible, however not a very good idea.
Bose speakers are designed a little different than other brand speakers, the Equalizer built into the bose system will probably not sound amazing when you hook up your other speakers. Are you looking for more bass? cleaner highs?

if you want more bass, you could try doubling up your subs, if you want cleaner highs you could buy Bose Jewel Cube Speakers (purchased from a Bose Built-Invisible Dealer

Replacement speaker (upper) for Bose double Cube.

try a music specialty store or radio shack if you want to only replace the small speakers inside the cubes. If you want to replace the whole cube, there are others out there. Look on ebay and or amazon I think the brand is JA Audio. A knock off of the bose cubes that can be used as stand alone speakers without the module.
