Fill in flash

Any way to get the flash to fire outside in sunlight? The manual says it will fire when raised but this does not happen in sunlight or backlight situations. thanks

Use button on top of camera to left of flash to put it into "ON" mode instead of "AUTO".

My camera having problem that it is not properly work in sunlight it consisting white bright coloured horizontal stripes on the picture but when i used it at night time or inside home it is...

it is possible that the sensor for the camera is no longer good and is not receiving equal exposures, but at night time or in the house when the flash fires it creates an equal exposure because of the short burt of flash that covers the sensor equally over the short amount of time (this is not occuring outdoors even if the flash does fire) this could be a manufactuiring problem and i would see if they will warranty the camera, check your owners manual

Pictures are over exposed when outside

You may have the settings wrong. Check in the MENU to see if you have it set to "inside" pics rather than outside.
Also the ISO has a lot to do with the exposure. If the iso is set too low outside sunlight pics will be white or overexposed. Try setting ISO on wheel for various options select program mode button and MENU select ISO 120 or 250. These are are pretty general settings. the flash will only engage inside or outside if the light is low ( like evening) I suspect your ISO setting is at a setting that is incompatible with bright sunlight
t
Also select White Balance and move it to DAYLIGHT

take a few shots inside and out to see if there is an improvement.

I have a Nikon D80 camera that is about 1 year old. I has worked fine until about 6 months ago. Sometimes when I turn it on and press the button to take the picture nothing happens. I have to wait awhile...

Are you getting a Err message? If so The ERR message is not a good thing. Read page 132 of the D80 Manual. Also, try a factory reset found on page 129 of the manual. On the left side of the camera is the terminal cover, inside below the USB connector is the reset switch. If that does not work call Nikon digital 1-800-645-6689.

AF area mode problem

To answer your flash question...the Nikon flash system fires the flash when the camera thinks the picture will be too contrasty without the flash. You can Google for "fill flash" to learn more. This is usually beneficial; if not, holding the flash button and turning the main dial will cycle through flash options on the top screen.
