Question about LG Washing Machines
Machine (LG wm1280 7kg)works fine except drum wont rotate during cycle or spin only program - drum just slightly rocks side to side. made a very loud banging noise during spin cycle before problem occurred. can rotate drum by hand from rear of machine. is it a bearing, brushes or motor fault and worth fixing? been brilliant machine for last 5 years, still looks like new and cost about £400.
You can repair it, but it really needs to be done by a qualified technician. What has very possibly happened, is the spider assembly has snapped that connects to the drum (that's the noise you heard).. The drum has now collapsed. Different machines open differently. The later ones have plastic outer frames, and when the "spider arm"collapses, it eats large chunks out of the drum internally. It in my opinion is not then worth the repair. For the older ones, one needs to remove drive belt and pulley then strip front of machine to enable you to open it up. This will let you then remove the inner drum. Inspect spider assy. and see if actually broken. (I'm sure it is.) Phone agents for replacement parts which will be 2 bearings and a seal and the spider assembly.Install and reassemble.

Sounds like the spin coil/brake solenoid is burnt out or broken. This is a coil situated on the motor plate under the machine with a lever attatched to it. When the machine goes into spin cycle, this solenoid pulls the brake away from the outer drum to allow the drum and agitator to spin together. The shaft that goes into this coil should move in and out freely. If tight, replace spin coil/brake solenoid.
