Question about NetGear DG834G Router

2 Answers

Need help to reset Passphrase.

I have an Netgear DG834G router. I want to change my passphrase because there is traffic on my wireless network when I'm not using my computer so I am assuming someone is hacking into it. Do I need any codes other than my SSID and WPA Passphrase? It seems I do, yet my ISDP provider says I do not need or have a password from them. I am stuck! Thanks.

Your Internet Provider isn't te one supplying you with your WPA and SSID. These settings are stored on your router. You can access your router by inputting its IP adress in your internet browser of choice. It's usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
If that doesn't work; simply goto Start > Run and type in cmd. Then hit enter. Now type in ipconfig/all and hit enter. Look for the Default Gateway.
Log in (if you didn't change the settings, they're at their default. Usually admin admin) and look for the wireless settings. You can change the passphrase there.

To reset or change the security key please perform the steps below:

1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the username and password is case sensitive).
4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, enter a password in the passphrase box.
7. If WEP is selected, enter a 10 digit Key that has a black dot before it.
8. Click Apply

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

What is my password for a wireless connection?

Give this a try;

To view or reset a wireless network password:

  1. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password ispassword or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.
  3. From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.

    • If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
    • If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.

If you cannot log into your router: Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings. if there is a small hole in the front or back of the router push a hair pin in to reset to factory settings
Hope this helps don

Wheres the security pin

You can find the security PIN on the device, at the bottom of the device. But if you are using Win Vista or Win 7, you can select the 2nd option on the page where it asks you for the PIN. The 2nd option would look like: I don't have the PIN, i would rather connect using using security key. This will be shown if you already have some security enabled on your wireless network. If its an unsecured network, The option would look like: I don't want to configure my network now, I just want to connect. Then you can connect with either the security or unsecured.

For further clarifications, revert!
Thanks for asking,

Need network security key or passphrase for my netgear DG834Gv4/DG834GBv4 !!! PLEASE( IP 192.168.0.1)

There is a login key for the router that can be accessed by opening the
address http://192.168.0.1 as described: after the login all settings inside the router can be changed.
Note: use a wired connection when going into the routers' ip address.

When you can not login with the default password, reset the device:

Restoring the Default Configuration and Password
This section explains how to restore the factory default configuration settings, changing the
router’s administration password to password and the IP address to 192.168.0.1. You can erase the
current configuration and restore factory defaults in two ways:
• Use the Erase function of the Web Configuration Manager.
• Press the WPS button and Wireless button on the side of the router simultaneously. You can
use this method for cases when the administration password or IP address is not known.

Resetting to Factory Default Settings
You can use this method for cases when the administration password or IP address is not known.
To restore the factory default configuration settings:
1. Press and hold the WPS button and the Wireless button on the side of the router until the Test
LED turns on (about 10 seconds).
2. Release the buttons and wait for the router to reboot.

WIRELESS SECURITY + PASSPHRASE
The wireless security is a network name for wireless connection called
SSID: the identification name of your router.
The passphrase is used for a secure password getting permission to have wireless data transfer from the router to the computer and vice versa. ( No internet connection so far: only Local Area Network [LAN] )

MODEM
Because the device is a router / ADSL modem you'r able to setup the
modem part for connection on a telephone line to the internet / Wide Area Network [WAN] .
You should use passwords from the Internet Service Provider [ ISP ] enter and save them in the modem section of the device.

My wireless HP prn stopped working suddenly with NetGear router

You need to go into the netgear router settings online with a computer that is attached to the router. You enter this:192.168.0.1 in the address bar to gain access. You need to know your username and password to gain access to the menu. Then check the wireless settings to see or change the passphrase. Good Luck
