Question about Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

Dyson DC17 Found the clog-how do I unclog it?

First thing I noticed was extreme suction in the attachments, it would almost flatten the hose it was sucking so hard. It made it hard to pull the hose out all the way and had to turn it off to put the attachment back onto the vacume. Next it just got really loud, high pitched....next thing I knew it would no longer work if I put the vacume upright and there was no suction when I used the regular push vacume-it just spit everything back out. Now, I've read several things on here and it sounded like I had a clog-we have 3 animals. I pulled the bottom off and sure nuff the little hose that connects the bottom to the main part of the machine is filled with hair. My question now, how do I clean that little hose out? I don't see anymore of the quick release screws to get to it. Any suggestions would be helpful. I am hoping this gets my vacume working right again.

I was using it with out wand attached to it and the tube started to go flat and tight. The sound changed too, like the canister was full, but it wasn't. What should I try?

Sounds like it took in something that clogged the hose. The obstructon will be located at the point where the hose begins contracting (flattening).

Poor Suction

The flexible hose between the beater bar housing and the connection to the dust bin might have come loose or has a hole in it. Check this hose for your low suction problem.

I don't get much suction from the hose on my DC17 All Floors. I don't see any obtacles in the hose. The suction when upright is fine.

Hello,

The way your Dyson DC17 is designed, there is a suction divert mechanism that diverts the suction to floor when the vacuum cleaner head is pushed down, and then back to the hose when the vacuum is in the upright position. If you are getting suction from the hose when the vacuum is upright, but no suction after the handle is reclined, this is actually the normal function for the Dyson DC17.

You can check to see if the filter is dirty. The washable filter on your Dyson DC17 is located directly underneath of the dust bin of the vacuum cleaner. After removing the dust bin, lift straight up on the part the bottom of the dust bin rests on. This is where the pre-motor filter is located for the DC17 models. If this filter is not cleaned on a regular basis, then it can start getting clogged, and you'll notice a loss of suction on the vacuum cleaner.

If you have further questions, please visit the link below where you may download the instruction manual. There are some trouble shooting guides at the back of the manual that you may do to try and diagnosis this further.

Suction from hose isnt strong enough. Vacuum

There is probably a clog on the U channel (little Gray tube that attaches to the Vac tubing). Pull it loose and look in side all the tubing.

Does not have the same suction as when we first purchase the vaccuum. it is only 2 years old. We cleand the round filter at the bottom of canister. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a clog in the hose or from brush to the hose. To clrar turn vacume over and remove bottom cover to unclog where it meats the hose. I would use a coat hanger to unclog the hose.

Dyson DC17 Animal Vacuum

you just need to blow those holes out with a air compressor or similiar device and the filter can be washed in water and dried for 24 hours every once in a while, this is just how the vacuum works, nothing is perfect
