Question about Goodman CLQ36AR49 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Home ac compressor fan won't turn all the time.

Sometime when ac kicks on, the compressor fan doesn't turn. After a nudge it starts to spin normally. When it didn't turn though, the compressor and indoor system was running normally. The compressor and outdoor unit was getting really warm. Before I was able to shut it off.

How much should it cost (approx.) to have the fan motor and capacitor replaced? It's a 1/4 hp 1075 rpm 60 hz motor w/ 4 bolts pointing up.
Fan motor is: AO Smith Model# F48F97A76. Don't know about the capacitor though.

Also, had someone suggest I move to a 1/3 hp motor. What do you think? I do live in PHX, very hot.

Your looking at $175-$225 for just the single phase motor depending where you purchase, I just replaced mine(identical unit) due to screaming dry bearings, if you replace it your self make sure to keep new wires tight along side of unit or fan will cut them if loose and its a fan- 5mfd/25mfd compressor@440volt cap

Could cluster fuse be prob why ac blowing hot? fan blows but hot air

Does the Compressor kick in when you turn on the AC? If it doesn't, the AC compressor is governed by the ECU. My AC went out along with an acceleration problem. hard starting, and unburnt fuel. I had my ECU rebuilt, and upon installation of the rebuilt unit, all worked perfectly again, including the AC.

Cooling fan won't come on when I turn on the AC

Your bigger problem is the compressor not kicking in. The cooling fan is not coming on because there is not enough high side pressure to turn the fan on. I would start by checking power to the compressor, fuses and relays would be inspect. Check to make sure there is the proper charge of refridegerant in the system.

Compressor and fans do not turn on until rev engine

I passed this question the first time I read it, so I will take a stab at it now.
The fans don't come on until the compressor has pumped the freon pressure up to say 150 or 200 psi. And the compressor clutch has to have voltage to engage the clutch.
I wonder if the clutch is going and needs 14 volts instead of 12 to engage ? Or the relay that powers the clutch ?
Speeding up the engine would increase voltage from the alternator.
This is assuming the serpentine belt is tight and everything else is working correctly.
I think I would swap the relay with another and put a meter on that circuit to the ac clutch to see what it takes to engage it.

Motor hums but won't kick in

Hi simpsonruth1..
In the back of the compressor motor you will see a fan, remove the plastic cover to get to it..
Once you have the plastic cover removed and the fan exposed, plug the compressor in and spin the fan with your fingers...be quick as the fan could cut your fingers if you do not get them out of the way..
If the compressor starts working, then the start capacitor is bad on the compressor...if it does not run then you have motor troubles, either replace the motor or get it rewound.

The compressor is running and the fan is running but it is not cooling. The refrigerator runs and stops like normal. Last time we had it checked the repair guy said it was the fan not spinning fast enough...

On the refrigerator and after sometime hold the condenser to see if it is hot, if it doesn't become hot then there is no refrigerant in the system there must be a leakage somewhere or it could be the compressor which is losing compression or doesn't pump well.

Ac doesn/t blow cold air

There could be a leak in your a/c system. Does your a/c compressor engage when the a/c is turned on? To check, locate the compressor, its a big cylinder on the serpentine belt, you should see the wheel engage(spin) and disengage(stop) when the a/c is activated. If it doesn't move, then your compressor is bad. If it does move, then there is a leak in the system that will need to be repaired.

The AC compressor looks like this:

Outside compressor fan won't spin without a nudge

Hi,

either you can lubricate it by spraying wd40 on the bushings. Although usually fan motors are permanently lubricated there are still dust particles that get through and cause it not to spin.
