Question about HP Scanjet 4470c Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

I have this same problem, colored lines in the scanned image

If i scan a picture using the *descreen* option, the lines over the image disappear in the view BUT are still present in the scanned and saved image.
I dissembled the scanner, cleaned the mirrors, cleaned the glass, blew out all dust. Nothing. I moved/ turned off all speakers and other magnetic objects, nothing. I have unplugged the usb and power cord many times.
This just started and i need to scan photos.

How do you scan?

Open the Applications folder on the hard disk on which MP Navigator is installed, then open the Canon Utilities folder and double-click the navicon.gif MP Navigator 3.0 icon. MP Navigator opens.
2. Point to Scan/Import and click 'Photos/Documents (Platen)'.

3. Place the document face-down on the platen glass, and select 'Document Type'.
How to place the document and Document Type depends on the document to be scanned.
navscandocwindow.gif
How to place the document
Allow 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen glass and the document.
Align a corner of the document with the corner at the arrow of the platen.
macnavscanselectdoctype.gif
  • When you select Color Photo or Black and White Photo, the position or size of the image may not be scanned correctly if you do not leave 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen glass and the document.
  • When you select Color Photo or Black and White Photo, the position or size of the image may not be scanned correctly depending on the document. In such a case, select Document Size such as A4 or Letter according to the document to be scanned.
  • When you select Magazine(Color), the Descreen function will be enabled and scanning takes longer than usual. To reset the Descreen function, disable Descreen in the Scan Settings dialog box.

4. Click 'Specify'... and set the preferences as required.
The Scan Settings Dialog Box opens. Specify the Document Size and Scanning Resolution.
macnavscanscanset.gif
  • When Document Size is Auto Detect or Auto Detect(Multiple Documents), the position or size of the image may not be scanned correctly depending on the document. In such a case, select Document Size, such as A4 or Letter according to the document to be scanned.
5. Click 'Scan'.
Scanning will begin.
When the document has been scanned, the scanned image is displayed in the Thumbnail List area.

When I scan film either color or B&W I get a faint grid pattern on the scanned image.

you need to change a setting in the software called "descreen."
if you enable it, it will eliminate that effect.
here is some info about that:

HP4400c Yielding Poor Image quality

I was having the same problem- dpi didn't have any effect.
Changing the SHARPEN to "High" and Descreen worked for me. My research showed the alternative fix was a new scanner, or at the very least a new bulb/power supply (which would probably cost more than a new scanner)

Instruction manual for Epson CX8400

Hi,

You can scan magazines and newspapers using this machine. You will need to use the Epson Scan software which is included in your printer driver disc. The picture below shows you need to select Home Mode and the important setting is for you to check the Descreening Filter option. You can just select other option to your own needs. For other question regarding this, please email me. Thanks!

Scanning B+W shows dots

Don't use Descreen. That is for scanning things such as Magazines that, when looked at very close, appears to have a lot of little dots that can cause a moire pattern when scanned.
