Question about Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

"Unable To Change" message. Tried all suggested fixes none work. Can you provide any additional help beyond the standard fixes. Nothing is jammed, turning it off for even days doesn't remove the error message, and I don't even use the fax machine! Thanks, Paul

In following your instructions, the reading is: Machine Error 4F

  • PFPW Dec 18, 2007

I tried it again two more times and the message came back: Unable To Change Trouble shoot and Routine Maintenence, the same error message I have been dealing with from the start!

So what exactly needs replacing, and do you know the cost of the part and labor aproxamently?

Thanks, but I think I will take it to the dump!Paul

Press menu then start bk copy then fourtimes arrow up. what error code does the machine display?

In case you have an error 50 you have to open the printer cover and to reinsert the encoder strip which is out of position into the ph. This occurs sometimes after a serious paper jam.

search error 50 for dcp 110, 115 or mfc 210 here. its the same procedure.

Machine needs complete new printhead. Spare part with labor is more costly than a new mfc 240/260.

My advise is to buy a new machine and sell the old one at eBay.

The thread keeps jamming under the feed dogs. The machine takes about 2 stiches and then it won't move any more, but it keeps sewing making a terrible mess under plate. What can I do to fix this...

I had the same problem and tried everything you did: rewinding the bobbin, checking to be sure I had the bobbin in correctly, checking the upper threading, readjusting the tension. When nothing I tried helped, I bit the bullet and took it to the shop where I had bought it. The timing was off; there were burrs on the bobbin case; the hook was not performing correctly;there were threads caught between the tension disks. It cost about $65 but when I brought it home, it purred like a kitten! I suggest you take it in for a check up! Especially if you've tried all the usual tests and none of them worked.
I'm sorry I couldn't give you a do-it-yourself answer but sometimes they've just gone beyond what we can do for them.

The company I work for has an old RICOH Copier that has an error message, ''Close the Finisher Door''. I've tried to open and close all the doors, checked for jammed paper, but nothing. Any suggestions?

These type of machines have actuators and micro switches, make sure none of the actuators are bent and not making contact with the switches, The actuator may be a pin or bolt that come in contact with the door switch.

Hope this is of some help.

So dont let me be a withness of murderer:
There is no paper sicking within the machine! The jam had lifted the encoder strip out of the ph. After you have fixed it simppy stick some very thin scotch tape onto the ph cover to avoid further liftings (that will happen quite often...)
