Did you make sure that you installed the latest driver from HP's web site for Vista? Some systems will grab the wrong driver if you let it do an automatic install.

Does it print from any other program? (e.g. Notepad, MS Word etc) Are you receiving any error messages? are the documents being passed to the printer queue? (if the printer icon is showing, you can check this by double clicking it - most printers will show the queue upon double clicking the tray icon)

SOURCE: I'm not sure if this is a printer driver problem

So your printing to a network IP port? I don't this the setup is the problem if the computers see this printer as a network printer. I believe this to be a driver problem. I would try either a 5e or genric driver of some type. I'm not sure what type of printer this is so...

Samsung CLP-300 Printer not printing black well

You need to take it a couple steps further after your test print. Sounds like your print heads need cleaning or your cartridge may need aligning. It's best to do this each time you install a new cartridge. get more information and help from here .

Want to print in b&w

I think the problem might be with the printer you are using. All my printers that I am using with different pc's using vista (4 printers all from different companies) have a colour and a greyscale button I can select under the quality tab in printer preferences. I don't get a B & W button to select from at all. I checked the help file in vista and it mentions "print color images in black and white" briefly, and the only thing it says is "option only available on supported printers". I am guessing you didn't upgrade your printer when you went to vista and maybe the OS doesn't support all the functions on the old printer. I had to give my favourite printer away to a friend and buy a new one when I changed to vista originally as my old one wouldn't even connect after I upgraded. Got very annoyed over that one let me tell you. At least yours still works so you had a better experience than I got stuck with after upgrading. Can you check your printer makers website to see if they have updated Vista drivers for your model? If they don't they might have some other info on doing what you want to do. Otherwise see about upgrading the printer to something newer I guess.

Vista cannot connect to xp printer

It sounds like your are using your Windows XP computer as the print server, and you are trying to connect your Windows Vista machine to the Windows XP print server. Your Vista machine is trying to download the XP drivers from the Windows XP computer to your Vista machine. This won't work. Windows XP and Vista print drivers are not compatible.

If the printer is truely networked (it has it's own IP address on the network, it has its own ethernet connection). Then instead of trying to map out to this shared printer, add new printer to the Vista machine using Vista drivers for the HP Deskjet 3940. The type of port you would need is a standard TCP/IP port. To get this address, print a settings page from the printer. Look for either a TCP/IP address or IP address on this print out. This is the port address you want to create and then connect to.

Epson R220 has solid red teardrop light on - will not print.

I hooked up the printer to my old computer which has Windows XP. My new computer has Vista. The problem is with Vista as it does not allow me access to the ink monitor levels as is not the case with XP. This is one problem that I have noticed with Vista and would like to know if there is a quick fix for this. How can they put out a product inferior to Windows XP? There must be a download of some kind to fix this problem.
