That could be a driver problem, thermal or power supply problem.

Sounds like a software clash. I would recommend formatting your hard rive and reload your operating system, obviously backing up your files first

Shuts down

Hi,

This is a typical symptom of a failing power supply. Replace your power supply and see if the problem still persists.

Please notify me should you need any further assistance.

Best wishes,

Inspiron 6000 starts to boot but then shuts down after only 10 seconds. New Battery, power supply measures ok. Caps lite is on.

Try reseating the RAM memory modules, see if any change.
If no change, remove, battery, Drives, Wireless card and RAM, see if the system will run longer or give an error code. If something changes, add 1 RAM module and try again. If the system runs, then add items back one at a time until you determine the faulty item.
If the system issue doesn't change, odds are a motherboard problem. Motherboard are about $100 on Ebay

The computer starts up and then shuts down, then

First things to establish, if you are running from battery whether the laptop is charged, if you are running from AC whether the cable works properly. If both of these are ok, have you made any hardware changes recently? If so, check that the are securley installed and if so then remove if possible. Failing that there may be a problem with the power supply to the motherboard, something you may be able to address if you have an intermediate understanding of internal components.

Presario 5000 will not start. afterpressing power button, it starts up but immediately shuts down.

If it happens after a few seconds, it may be overheating. If immedietely, the power supply unit is bad.

It all of a sudden shuts down

for your suddenly shut down there might be a virus in your motherboard ''Brontoc'' or ''foooool''
they might harm your motherboard install the anti-virus you trust ''best use avg free 8.5.87,download from www.filehippo.com''
second for your ram you can increase them as much as you want so you can reach your limit to 4GB RAM
i wish this helped you
