Re: bios password

When I was doing some research on my mysterious BIOS password problem with my Toshiba.

Long story short, Toshiba is aware of the problem and has released version 2.20 of the BIOS software which states that they have "Added a workaround for a BIOS password anomaly."

I know this is not the forum to discuss this stuff but felt compelled after the many hours of frustration, diconnects and name-rank-and-serial-number talk with Toshiba Support and Toshiba Customer Service.

Bottom line is that depending on who you talk to a Toshiba or Toshiba Customer Service, they may or may not cover the up to $200 charge for removing a BIOS password..."Toshiba does not warranty software issues". If you have this problem just be persistant until you get ahold of someone who is aware that the problem is real and who will listen. And not that morron who told me "that there is no way a BIOS password can be set without someone setting it"...idiot. They will send an "exception code" to your service provider to do the work under warranty...I mean how can they not if they're aware the problem exist and post a fix on their own website.

I just got my lab top back from my Service Provider for the second time for this problem so I don't have many hours running it to see if it happens again...I've got my fingers crossed. The first time was in July '06 and the updated software didn't come out until Sept'06. So although Toshiba gave me an exception to remove the BIOS password, the software was still corrupt and it happened again in Nov '06.

I dont remember the password bios HP pavilion zd8000

Two ways to reset the Bios/CMOS password are as follows: Basically option number is recommended. 1. Mechanically, by removing all power to the Bios/CMOS thereby forcing it to reset itself to its stored defaults. You can do this by removing the CMOS battery from *********** board or by resetting a jumper on the motherboard itself (referred to as a "clear CMOS" jumper)
2. By using a program to either locate and identify the password. This programs are referred to as password by-pass utilities or cracks.

Forget my bios password notebook hp 6720s

Removing the RTC battery and leaving it uninstalled for 5 or more minutes causes all passwords and CMOS settings to be cleared. BIOS password can be removed by temporarily disconnecting/ removing the RTC/ CMOS (Coin-cell) battery from the motherboard. Disconnect the coin-cell battery from the system board and it will reset the BIOS to its default setting and the password would be gone.
Please Refer to Page 77 of the REPAIR MANUAL HP 6720S.
If you can't do it yourself, you may seek help from local laptop service professional.

Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

Hi i am an indian.sir my laptop toshiba model:satellite A130/A135 Series is asking for bios password.ples help me.

If you dont remember the BIOS password, you may remove it by resetting the BIOS password.

Please follow the below steps to reset the BIOS password:

1) Please remove the bottom casing of the Notebook.
2) Once you have removed the below casing, you should be able to see a CMOS Battery.
3) The CMOS Battery will be of a size of a coin.
4) Once you have found the CMOS Battery, please remove and re-insert it again.
5) The CMOS Battery will have the information about the Computer Date, time, BIOS Password etc.,
6) Removing and re-inserting the CMOS Battery will reset these settings, which will also remove the BIOS password.

Please perform the above steps and let me know the results.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to contact for further information and assistance.

Hi the only possible way to reset the password in the BIOS is to reset the CMOS battery. It is located in one of the panel below the sys (you must have proper expertise to do this) towards the right hand side. The battery is set on a jumper You first need to disconnect all power source i.e adaptor and battery. than remove the panels to try and locate the CMOS Battery. Remember not to tuch anything else or connect any of the cables any where else it may cause a problem for the sys and you. Once the CMOS battery is reset the BIOS password will have gone.
All the best

Please help me reset my bios password on acer travelmate 2410

First you need to remove the laptop battery at the back side. Find some screw there and remove it locate the CMOS battery and jamper.

The BIOS password is stored in CMOS memory that is maintained while the PC is powered off by a small battery, which is attached to the motherboard. If you remove this battery, all CMOS information (including the BIOS password) will be lost. You will need to re-enter the correct CMOS setup information to use the machine. The machines owner or user will most likely be alarmed when it is discovered that the BIOS password has been deleted.

On some motherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard, making it difficult to remove. If this is the case, you have another alternative. Somewhere on the motherboard you should find a jumper that will clear the BIOS password. If you have the motherboard documentation, you will know where that jumper is.

If not, the jumper may be labeled on the motherboard. If you are not fortunate enough for either of these to be the case, you may be able to guess which jumper is the correct jumper. This jumper is usually standing alone near the battery. If you cannot locate this jumper, you might short both of the points where the battery connects to the motherboard.

Where is Cmos Clear jumper on motherboard to clear Bios password.

If you can't find the jumper, just remove the CMOS battery wait for 1/2 + hour and the re-insert the battery. This will reset the BIOS back to the default settings and you then need to set the Time & Date.
It may not remove the BIOS password if the laptop stores the password on an EEPROM chip.
