Hello there angelafurnis.

Here's your GEEK-steer ...

If I interpret your question correctly, you're saying that in the midst of installing a Windows XP operating system, it's requiring you to input a code.

If so, it wants your Windows XP Product-Key-Code. Depending upon the source/type of your product, the code may be found here:

  • On the installation disk/sleeve.
  • Placed on the exterior of the PC case associated with this product.
  • On/in the PC's documentation manual.
  • If you have none of the above, you may contact Microsoft support services [800-MICROSOFT (642-7676)] for resolution. There should be no-charge if all you've done is lost the code. But be prepared with enough info (vendor who sold you the product, purchase date, etc.) to satisfy them this is an approved installation.
Good luck, and thanks in advance for posting back ...
  • to let me (and others) know how things worked out,
  • if you have any further questions,
  • to provide clarification or feedback.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Asus laptop will not boot up after install of new hard drive

If your ASUS laptop uses a SATA hard drive -

SATA HARD DRIVE - XP INSTALLATION
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

I downloaded a copy of windows vista and it expired,im trying to reinstall my hp windows xp recovery cd and its asking me for a password, cant remember if i ever did set up a password for this pc.how can...

Hello,

At what point is it asking for a password? Has the computer formatted the hard drive yet? It sounds like you might be going in to Recovery Console instead of installing a fresh copy of Windows.

What you want to do is press Enter at the first screen, agree to the license, and then format your hard drive. After that, it will go through the installation without asking for a password. Remember - you'll lose all your data when you format.

Power on password

Hi,
That's a big problem that you have. the type of password that its asking for is the system password and admin password. the only peole who can provide you a master password for that are the level 2 techs in austin, TX. but before they give you the master password u need to know who the previous owner was because the tech will be asking for that. i advice for you to contact dell support at 800-8228965

hope this helps.

thanks.
