Make sure once you install the wireless printer on your computer that you go to your control panel. Once there make sure the wireless printer is set as the default printer. You can find this in the control panel under printers. Also make sure your printer that you are installing works with vista if not you will have to reinstall every time because vista won't save the data if it is not vista compatible.

I'll try to do some checking and get back to you if I can find a solution that works for you. Sorry I couldn't help more at this time.

I did some checking and so far what I have found is that certain printers when used in vista, you have to go to the manufacturer. Like hp.com or whatever and enter the brand and model then would be to download the updated driver for that printer. If you could try that if you haven't yet and I'll keep looking.

I'm still checking, but this is a puzzler.

Yes it could be, try checking your firewall settings and I'll continue looking for an answer. Not having a lot of luck, but will keep trying.

To be able to set up wireless printer configuration, there are three basic items that you need to have. They are a high-speed broadband Internet connection (with modem), a high speed wireless router and wireless network adaptors. These three items will be used in setting up the wireless printer. Assuming that there is already an existing network in the home or office space, then all that is needed to do to make the printer available in the network through the operating system’s networking wizard. If not, then the network must first be established, only then the printer will be made available through that network. get more information and help for Wireless Printer Configuration .

As your printer is not wireless itself I assume you shared the printer. To enable this again goto Control Panel on your desktop, select printers, right click your printer and there should be an option for sharing. Enable sharing.
Now using your Vista laptops you should connect to your home network (in your case this is probably a wireless router, as long as your desktop is connected to this router too), goto Control Panel, printers, add printer, search for printer not connected to this copmputer (or network printer).
Hopefully the Vista laptops will then pick it up and install it correctly. You may be asked to install the correct driver for the vista machines. Windows should provide you with instructions on how to do this.
Hope this helps,www.PuterCare.com

Can't find printer on network

1.How are you attaching to the network printer from your daughters computer? IP address, or by the name of the printer...Also make sure you check you are attaching to the network printer, and not local printer.

2. Install the Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 protocol on both computers by clicking install on your LAN properties, then restart PC. This should work!

Network Vista Wireless Laptop to XP Desktop & Print Documents

On the desktop machine - go to the printers folder, right click the icon for the Laserjet and choose sharing (enable print sharing). You should be able to name the printer and make it accessible to anyone within the workgroup. If needed you can run the network setup wizard to change the workgroup names on both machines.

On the laptop go to add new printer and choose network printer, you should be able to browse to the desktop machine by name and choose the Laserjet as a printer (whether you want it to be the default is up to you). The laptop will download and install the drivers from the desktop pc to the laptop and set the correct network path automatically.

It goes without saying that the desktop machine must be on in order to print from the laptop in this scenario.
