Question about Whirlpool GS5SHGXLS Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice Maker The ice maker is going through the cycle however, it is not filling the tray with water. Could this be the water inlet valve not functioning properly? If so how do I get to it and how do I check it?

Yes it could be... The valve is blue in color and located behind the appliance at bottom. It should have two water lines going to it. One from the wall and one from the ice maker. Also check the fill tube that feeds the ice maker to make sure its not frozen up. to check it you "could" unplug the power wires going to it and wire it into another source of power, but I would say just replace it.

Hello
Either the fill solinoid is bad or the inlet tube at the ice maker is frozen.
Try running a hair dryer to remove any ice that may be blocking the water from coming into the ice maker tray.

No ice being made. The water is not eing supplied to the ice tray. The water dispenser in the door is working fine.

Well since water is making it to your door the line itself is functioning. You might want to check and see if the fill tube to the ice maker is frozen. Also try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear. If it does then the ice maker is at fault.

Ice maker does not make ice anymore. appears the tray is not filling with water. door water dispenser is still working

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Ice maker not cycling

Hi reach up into the tray where the ice is made. Feel for ice, If no ice is in the tray then the inlet valve is bad. If there is still ice in the tray the ice maker is bad. The inlet valve can be located by pulling the unit out and taking the lower panel off at the back. If there is no water in the tray also check for a blocked fill tube, this is the tube that goes from the back of the freezer to the ice maker. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Mike

Kenmore 56541 side by side icemaker nor making ice The in door water dispencer works Arm on tray is on no water getting to tray

1.Bad water valve located in the back bottom of refrigerator.
2. Frozen fill tube going into back of ice maker. (common problem)
3. Ice maker not cycling. Pour water into ice maker cavity until near filled.
Wait a few hours and see if it dumps.
4.In rare cases, the switch in the ice maker body fails. Ice maker will cycle but not tell water valve to refill.

Icemaker won't fill tray,

Was the inlet tube frozen. If so your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is probably leaking and when the water reaches the freezer it freezes, blocking the inlet tube. Replace the water inlet valve.

Ice cube tray isn`t filling with water but I have water on the door dispenser.

Hi, Check the inlet tube that comes through the back wall into the ice maker. See it has froze shut.
If there is ice in the tube, thaw it out and let the ice maker cycle. Plan on changing the inlet valve if the tube is plugged.
If the inlet is not plugged, let the ice maker cycle and listen for or test the valve for 120V. If there is a buzzing sound or you are getting voltage and no water, remove the tube frrom the valve that leads to the ice maker and see if water comes out of the valve.
If no water comes out of the valve, change it.
I hope this helps you.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Ice maker wont fill

Hi, It sounds like the inlet valve needs changes. Could be the plunger inside the solenoid is not lifting to allow water through. If you remove the line going to the ice maker off the inlet valve, try and cycle the ice maker and put the inlet valve over a bucket to see if water is coming out when it gets voltage.
I hope this helps. Please let me knwo if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Ice maker cycling but getting stuck

Either you have a bad heating element (soften the ice to eject) or a stripped gear in Ice Maker either way it will have to be replaced by the time you buy the parts and install them you can just replace the ice maker as a unit
