Question about HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Just repaired the encoding strip. Now I can't print pink/magenta. I replaced the pink cartridge because it was low. The ink gauge says everything is okay. I think the print head must be clogged. I did run a clean the print head multiple times and still no luck. Interestingly enough. If I run an printer head alignment, it does print the pink/magenta color. Could I have damaged the electronic strip that connects the control lid to the printer causing this problem? Or is it just a clogged print head from lack of use and how can I fix it?

I hope this helps. There is usually a spring that holds the encoder strip on either or both ends. The have a hole that the spring is inserted in. The hole brakes and the encoder strip comes off. If you have all the parts including the spring you can modify the encoder strip by cutting a piece of strong tape to fit over where the strip was broken. I use packing tape. Poke a hole in it and reinstall encoder strip. You should also be able to buy a new strip but I am not sure. I also would go to an electronic store and find a tool to help. Buy a spring hook. It is designed to help push on and pull off springs and they only should cost a couple bucks USA. I hope this helps, Bill

Assuming you have successfully eliminated cartridge/print head problems, the only other thing to try is to delete the printer software and reinstall [Start/Printers and faxes -right click on the printer icon click delete- install new printer -Have the software disk and handy or select from list- select maker, select model,] I suspect the problem is still print head/cartridge however

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the printer, and replugging it after one minute has passed. This technique reprograms the electronics to a certain extent.
You can also visit the HP website, which provides solutions to various printer problems. Anyone can access this information. Some solutions are specific to your model and some are applicable to other models. You might have to sift through a few pages of solutions, to get to the ones you want.
Hope these suggestions help you out.
