Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

I can't connect to Intellinet WAP for initial setup. I have a Rosewill EasyN wireless router broadcasting a b/g/n network, set at 192.168.0.1 and use another (Belkin wireless-G) as a pass thru switch. Now I want to set up the Intellinet WAP to grab the wireless signal and send it to the TV via ethernet cable. But I can't connect to the WAP for initial setup. No matter which router I plug it in to, or even if I plug it directly in to the modem, I can not get to 192.168.2.1 for setup. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Netgear WG602 wireless router, Connection Local only !

What I think is you unplgged them at the wrong times.

Do this:
(in this order)

  1. Turn off the router.
  2. Turn off the modem.
  3. take out all the Ethernet cords from the router, EXCEPT the one coming from the modem
  4. Now turn the modem on.
  5. Wait for the lights, then wait about another minute for it to settle.
  6. Turn on the router, make sure the Internet,Lan,Wlan, etc lights are on and functional if it doesn't display a light let me know.
  7. Now depending on what your wireless network (SSID) is called try to connect to it. Go to Start>Network>Click Network And Sharing Center at the top>on the left select Manage Wireless Networks>now click add, if your network is already on the list shown select it and click remove otherwise click "Add" click "add network in reange of this computer" select your network name and click connect.
Now tell me the errors, like if it says connection limited,etc...

Thanks,
Cam

SOURCE: Help setting up hwr54g as an access point

Yes there is an easier way! Just setup the router as you would any normal setup. Follow the directions to set it up for the first time. What you want to do is have the put in all of your information that you need for it to communicate with your Modem. This will automatically place the router onto your network. Now the part that I believe you want is for this to be secure! Well setup either a WEP or WPA these are both encryption Protocols that will denie access to anyone other than you or someone you allow to access your network wirelessly.
You do not really have to go through all of the trouble of setting up specifics. As long as the two devices communicate the router and the modem will do the rest. I do this everyday in my daily work day! Anymore quesitons please feel free to ask!

Wher to enter code

When I try to connect the Wireless network of my Intellinet router, Windows 7 displays the message below. However, there is no label with a pin code on the router.
[img src="http://kb.intellinet-network.com/images/Image/router/router_pin_code(2).jpg" alt="Type the 8-digit PIN from the router label" border="0" height="294" hspace="5" vspace="5" width="400">

Solution: Perform the following steps.

  1. Connect to the router with a network cable to one of the LAN ports
  2. Open the admin menu at http://192.168.2.1
  3. Login with admin / 1234.
  4. Click on GENERAL SETUP -> WIRELESS -> SECURITY SETTINGS
  5. Set "Encryption" to WPA Pre-Shard key
  6. Set the WPA UNICAST to WPA2 (AES) or WPA2 (Mixed)
  7. Set the pre-shard key format to passphrase.
  8. In the field Pre-Shared Key type in the password for the wireless network. It should be at least 8 characters in length. Write down this password. You will need to enter the password when you connect with your WLAN clients to the network.
  9. Click APPLY and APPLY again to restart the router.
  10. Wait for about two minutes, then re-scan your WLAN networks on your Windows 7 system and connect just like before. Now you need to type in the password you set up under step 8.

How to retrieve password from wireless access point router zyxel -570u

Initial Set-Up
Plug your wireless router into the cable connection in your wall. Plug the connection cord into the "WAN" port on the router. Plug the router's power source into the wall and turn the router on. Connect your wireless access point to your router by pushing one end of an Ethernet cord into the WAP. Push the other end of the Ethernet cord into the "LAN" port on the router. The WAP connects your wireless devices to your router.
Connect your laptop or computer to the WAP. Click the "Start" button on your computer and then click "Control Panel." Click "Network and Internet" and then select "Network and Sharing Center." The "Network and Sharing Center" window opens.
Click "Set up a wireless router or access point." Click the "Next" button.
Follow the prompts to create a wireless pass phrase or security key. Write the key down in a safe location to ensure access later, if required.

Use a strong one of your desire.
or Are you just setup your router?
Usually the address look like http://192.168.0.1/, from there you setup the route, and also usually is the mac address that is on the router specs in the box.

http://www.intellinet-network.com/en-US
link above for manual find exact model 7 number & download, read up.
You hook up with an Ethernet cable, you type in the "Address" of the router, in manual, login, using default name and password, in manual, once logged in toy can then run the "Wizard" this will help you connect. You need to know your Internet Account login and password. Once all setup you save and now you can use it. it is all explained in the manual. It is a few pages so it was not possible to post here.

How secure my network

When you first setup your wireless router you should change the login password and then the wireless configuration, setup WAP or WAP2 encryption (WAP2 is the strongest encryption) and change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
For further wireless protection enable MAC address filtering. The MAC address of the wireless card is entered in the router MAC address filter table, which allows only the wireless card with this MAC address to connect to the router.
Also if your router has a firewall then you should enable this feature.
The wireless card on the computer needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings. The LAN cable can be removed and the computer communicates wirelessly with the router.
All the computers on your network should have anti-virus program installed and firewall enabled.

By this I assume you mean that you want to prevent unauthorized access to your wireless router anf therefore Internet and your computer/s on your network.
1. Change the router's default password.
2. Change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
3. Setup encryption use WAP2 if possible, if not then WAP.
4. Setup MAC address filtering (ie. the MAC address of the wireless card on your computer) This allows only the listed MAC addresses to connect to this router.
