Craftsman (older model)

For some reason, my door opens & closes on its own at differnet times. Does anyone know if this can be fixed? I have to keep it unplugged so I don't get surprised as I'm getting home.

Re: Craftsman (older model)

Do you have the option to change the electronic codes on your garage door opener system? My father-in-law had the same problem a number of years ago. He had not reset the code (equivalent to the combination on a lock) from the equivalent of 0-0-0 (which his unit shipped with). Turned out that a neighbor (or neighbour - in Canada) had the same /similar unit and when the neighbor opened 'his' door, my father-in-law's door would also open. You don't have to see the person drive by - it can be the neighbors behind you as well. You may find a solution by determining if you can change the original electronic code to a different one of your own choosing.
Hope this helps.

My Craftsman garage door opener opens fine. It

It could be closing too far or the sensitivity could be set too sensitive.

Lube the springs, wd-40 rust may be the whole problem.

If the door hits and the opener continues to move until the rail flexes upward and then reverses - probably the travel adjustment.

Does the door close and stay closed if you hold the wall button down constant until it closes? - this would indicate a safety eye problem.

If the door reverses before it hits the floor or just as it hits the floor it could be the sensitivity or if the safety eyes are mounted to the track they could be flexing enough to move the eyes out of alignment.

Hope this helps.

Our automatic garage door opener does not fucntion well in very cold temperatures (below 32 F). It will not close all of the way and will stop or will stop about half way down and return to the up position...

There is no adjustment for temperature. Make sure the tracks have not been greased. This sometimes causes a problem when it congeals from cold weather. There is no reason to ever lubricate the rails. You can try increasing the down force. It is a control on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Increase it a 1/4 turn and try.

Older model 1/3 hp craftsman goes up not down with remote

Your door sensors are either bad or need simply to be aligned. They must be pointed at one another to work properly. Each of them has a small light that will be lit when they are pointed correctly.

Door closing half way then pulling back up

Check your door sensors. Most likely one has been bumped and they are not pointed at one another. Tweak them until the small light on each one is lit steady and not blinking.

Motor wont run on craftsman opener

You need to remove the cover and look at the drive gear. It is probably stripped. I really recommend a technician to repair your door.

Wring sensors

whites together under 2nd screw, grays together under 3rd screw. both indicator lights (normally LED's) on the eyes (1 each) must be lit in order to operate. this is the basic set-up...if you give me your model number from the opener, I should be able to find a owners/users manual for the unit

please take the time to give this solution a fix ya rating

Thanks for using Fix Ya

Opening & closing by itself

above would not explain unit running in middle of night after door had been closed. I to would suggest taking off wire from motor (white and red). if problem stops, you have a short in wire or a bad pushbutton.

Door hard to close have starts to close stops and starts to open again have to keep stopping and reversing door mult times to get closed

There should be two small white adjustment knobs on the side of the unit that you turn with a small flathead screwdriver. These are the load / limit adjusters.

What it happening is it think there is something stuck under the door (like a car hood, etc)

These adjustments are VERY sensitive, so be patient while adjusting them.
