There could be a number of problems such as:

Your PSU is toasted. (Power supply unit)
Your Motherboard is fried.
Your Ram is fried.
Your power button is loose from the contacts (or the wire is loose).
Your Motherboard, Your Drives, and/or Devices are unplugged in one way or another.
And/or more

Laptop turns off after a second

One second after your press the power button or one second after it gets the the windows desktop? When you press the power button do you hear the fan running, see any lights, hear the disk drive spinning, hear the cd rom drive click once and see the light for about 2 seconds on the cd rom drawer? If all the previous is seen or heard it means you are getting power and it's trying to boot. If you see or hear nothing at all it means your power cord is probably bad. On most laptops once you plug the power cord in you should see a light someone on the laptop, if not the cord is bad. Also on some AC Adapter Power Cords they will have an indicator light on the adapter that lets you know it's functioning. It really sounds like your power cord went bad and the last time you were able to operate you were operating off your battery which is completely drained since the cord could not recharge it. One last thing to try is remove the power cord and battery from the laptop. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug on the power cord back it and press the power button. if it boots you can put the battery back in.

I have a Compaq Presario SR2020NX. I press the power button and the fan comes on, the green light is bright , the cd drive blinks then stops as if the computer is starting but nothing happens. The fan...

Disconnect the drive and try to boot to the BIOS (usually with F1, F2 or Delete key). If that doesn't work, try removing all cards from the computer (except a video card if the video port is not on the motherboard). If you can boot this way, try inserting back any removed cards to see what hangs it. Do you hear any beeps when the computer is booting (beep codes)?

I get a message that says "Waste Ink Near Full".

3 choices are available. Take it in for service(expensive), try to clean waste ink pad yourself(messy) or try this reset yourself. It works on many different models and may be your answer.

I have been running my printer for approximately 2 years since resetting mine without a problem.

D600 laptop boot problem

The D600 is plagued with power up problems for 2 reasons. First the connector on the motherboard to the power button is very sloppy and after awile it breaks contact. If you put pressure under the docking port area and press the power button it may start. The second is the memory slots. I know you said you replaced the memory, but it is the slot that is a problem. Remove the memory and put 1 chip in "A", then press down on the chip while trying to boot the laptop. If this works then get a peice of foam or pad and place it on the chip. When you put the cover back on it will push down on the chip and should boot. Repeat this process for "B".
The green light does signify a charged battery! This is also a possible reason for not booting. Remove the battery and try to boot with only the power supply. A shorted battery will stop the laptop from starting up.
If all of this does not help then remove the battery and the CD Rom, then try to boot. Finaly if nothing helps you should buy a new Laptop or a used one on E Bay. You could get a used D600 on E Bay that has a good motherboard for cheap money and use your drives and LCD. I work on D600 and D800 all the time. Let me know how you make out!

You got some short on board, You need techguy. Or possible Bios flash, Remove the Harddisk and press the power button.
If nothing change, Remove power, battery, cd rom, Hdd, memory.

Then put one stick of memory, power up, see anything comes up.If does, power off, put the other memory plug in power, fire up.
If does ok. Then plug off, and put hdd without CD rom. see if it did work.

If none is worked as I say you have short or CPU fan is not functioning.
Goodluck.
