Invalid Argument error in iTunes and App Store of iPod Touch 3.1

I have this error too! Hope Apple can solve this! I cannot connect to the internet with Safari too! May I must downgrade my software? I've wasted 600 yen for that ****!

Do the following... On your Touch go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings..... When it starts again got to Settings -> About and check to see if your Wi-Fi Address has been Reset. Hope that helps

This worked well. The only thing is, when you reset your network settings, you will be asked to enter your WiFi password. When you enter your 26 digit WEP key you will be able to connect to the internet again.

I had the same problem where the "invalid argument" would pop up even though i thought the wifi was connected. None of these solutions worked so I was just playing around to see if anything would work. What finally did it for me was clicking on "other" when it asks what network you would like to join. I then typed in the name of my network and copied the "Wep key" off the back of my server. After joining my network this way it finally worked. Good luck

WOOH! ok ok ok, so! iv spent weeks looking through stuff like this, i thought the wifi on my itouch was bad.

I have a 2wire router and it says i was logged in but still the wifi didnt work

TURNS OUT!
i used my "system password" and although it logged on it wouldnt work. but i tried the "wireless network key" (all written by the barcode on the router) and it worked perfectly.. sooo happy =)

This worked for me! Thought I was connected to the internet because I had a signal....but still getting "invalid arguement". Went into settings and changed my 2wire password to the key on the bottom of my modem....and got on the internet. Thank you!

For anyone wondering, it is not the SN number, but the next one down.

This is ridiculous. whenever i try to open the app store it says 'invalid argument' and when i try to open safari the screen dims and it says connecting but it wont connect. Apple come on, please fix this. its been happening too long and ive stopped using my ipod. your going to lose a lot of money and customers if you dont fix this problem. dose this mean your ipad will have the same problem? looking forward to that...

Ok, now there are a lot of reasons concerning this problem, from manual input to system bugs, I'm sure that when you read this, you would have tried (and failed with)a LOTof methods from the above solutions and etc. so, now im gona say an alternative method. When the restore network ****, restore the entire ipodcrap, renew lease ****, deleting apps **** (and more) all else fails, its maybe ur WEP keyword that is wrong. what i mean is, you should input the hex password instead of ur usual wep router password or whatever it is. To PC users, you can know ur hex password through ur working (and connected to the router) computer. Just go to the connections page in ur (desktop manager i think?) and then look at the Properties tab of ur connect router signal. There should be yet another called "security" tab in it somewhere. Selected that and another window should pop up ( I think) Look at the network security key and tick the "Show characters" in ur admin mode, then u should see your hex password . type it in ur ipod connection password and pray for the best.
This worked for me (My pc is a win 7) (3rd gen ipod 3.1.3) goodluck

OK the reason being for all the messed up itunes or app store on any ipod touch device first generation etc... is either because your IP address has been mixed up or for other purposes. if the first numbers in your IP address are 169 then that could be the problem. In order to check if this is your problem simply go into settings and click wifi then under wifi click the arrow that is at the end of your connected network and here it will show your ip address then only check if the first three numbers are 169 if so then click the forget this network tab and after doing so connect to your network again and your IP address should be restored and running smoothly again. If none of this helped you then simply just turn your ipod off and back on hopefully it works this way to but highly doubtful because of the slim chance of it working well thanks for reading this guide and hope your buying more stuff from either the app store or Itunes have a good day. ---Mike Garcia-------

I had this problem but i have figured out how to fix it. Go into settings, the tap on wifi, then double tap the blue arrow on your chosen network. Now in the IP adress field you need to change it so it begins with 192 eg.192.134.1.6. Now scroll down and tap renew lease and that should fix it.

This should work. Open up iTunes library & connect the USB to the computer. Hold don the power switch & silde the red arrow to turn off the iPod. Hold down the Home button while attaching the USB to the iPod. Keep holding it down until you see on the iPod screen a USB pointing towards iTunes. Now click to restore the iPod on iTunes...Worked for me

OHHHH... So simple. I performed each one of the "solutions". It came down to unplugging my wireless router, letting it reset, plugged it back in... Whammooo. All is good. Try this simple method first. Save yourself a load of frustration.

None of the solutions above helped. My setup is a combo modem/router and a separate wireless access point plugged into the router. The access point was 8-10 years old and started to fail, so I bought a new one. Now my problems are solved. For those of you who can update the firmware on you access points or replace it, this may solve your problem.

Invalid argument

FIRST OF ALL GO TO SAFARI AND TRY TO VISIT any other website BESIDE google.com
if it connects then check the networks firewall settings.
if it doesn't then this is because of your network connection.

How do you connect to app store when your ipod touch says cannot connect to app store invalid argument

Update the ipod software to 3.1.2 to address wi/fi problems, but dont update to the latest version 3.1.3 because the sneaky bastards at Apple used 3.1.3 to undo the jailbreak from Black Rain and Cydia. Theres no big improvement between 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 anyways.

Now make sure your ipod is fully charged and touch settings, wi/fi, slide the wi/fi to on, choose the same wi/fi you use to connect with your computer, and input the same user name and password, push the home button at the bottom of the ipod, then touch on Safari and the internet should be there for you.

Cheers old chap.
