The pressure switch will usually not let the compessor cut back in untill the pressure drops about 20 psi from cut-out pressure. This differntial can be adjusted by turning the differential adjustment screw. I would check that the switch is not faulty first. Look for switch model number under the cover and look for factory cut-out pressure. If the pressure range is different from factory specs, suspect switch is failing, or someone has tried to adjust the pressure. Dont take a chance with possible faulty switch on this expensive compressor. Switch is adjustable but you can replace for about $50. Good luck

1997 Chevy S-10 4.3 Vortec a/c blowing hot. Compressor and compressor clutch is working. Charge is up on system. Both low and high side is hot.

Usually when this happens it is the compressor. You really need to have the high and low pressures checked to properly diagnose the problem. You can have the low at 45 pounds and think things are OK, but the high is at 120 pounds. This is a problem. And high a 350 pounds is a problem also.

It sounds like the problem that you are having is with the unloader if there is only 30 to 40 pounds of air pressure in the tank it would probably start, but if the pressure is around 90 pounds it would be starting underload, the unloader should exhaust the air from the compressor so it does not have to start underload the unloader does two things it works the magnetic switch to turn the compressor on at probably around 90 pounds and off at about 120 it usually uses 120 V to work your magnetic breaker that uses 240 V I hope this helps.

Ingersoll-Rand DD2T2 air compressor

hi mate its either a fitting off the tank and it is just pumping air into the tank and out the hole or its the mpv valve this stops air in the tank bleeding back to the pump so when the pressure drops it can start other wise it wud not start as the piston is not possible to go up this is why when the compressor stops it bleeds off air in the system but to be honest i need more information to figure out what it could be e.g is it on pump unit or on tank etc

Air compressor motor stalls under pressure

this sounds like a bad pressure switch.if the unit is not shutting off at the same pressure each time this would be the cause.2 if the pressure is not unloading the air pressure on the compressor side of the unit it will cause the unit to struggle when it starts a cycle because the piston is under a load .how this works is say the unit starts from 0 psi when it get to the desired pressure you have it set on the unit kicks off . the other adjustment most units have on them is what pressure to cycle back on.so when the unit reaches say 100 pounds ,it kicks off and bleeds the air off the compressor side so when it starts back up it wont start up with pressure on the piston.

I have worked on many makita compressors and have run-across this problem on a few of them. Your compressor has a check valve that is supposed to hold tank pressure after the switch reaches set pressure. There is an unloader valve built into the pressure switch that releases the pressure in the discharge hose after the unit shuts off. The unloader allows the compressor to restart with-out any pressure in the discharge line. If the brass check valve is leaking pressure back into the system, air will leak out of the unloader valve. Follow the discharge line to the tank and you will see the brass check valve. To test valve for fault, run the compressor till it builds around 80 psi and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Remove the 1/4" hose connector from the check valve and check for air leaking out of the valve. If it is leaking you can order form www.toolpartsdirect.com. or call the makita 1-800 number. The price is about the same. Good Luck on your repair.

Check the pressure switch, they can become stuck in the open position. You can jump it to see if it is functioning or use a multimeter if you have one. Assuming that you've oiled and taken care of it it is unlikely that it simly quit, but that could happen... check across the poles of the motor for continuity which will tell you if the electric motor is blown. ALso make sure the compresor is not seized...
