Re: speaker voice is distorted. need new speaker.

Have same problem with 760. Radio Shack has nothing close. Magellan TS said 'no parts are available but send unit in for repair'. 3 to 6 weeks turn around and $49 USD. Then they offer an upgrade which is no deal.
The speaker is a 4 ohm 1 watt piezo approx 1.5in in diameter.

Take the old one out and try going to a radio shack store to match it or call the company magellan and see how much and to ship it

All navigation units are GPS Receivers - that is - they receive satellite signals. So, no there is no difference.

Roadmate 700 lost its voice...

Keith, Spraying the knob with contact cleaner will help but, if you get a thin cloth after you spray it and use it like floss underneath the knob.. your results may increase. Other then the volume knob, re-loading your software may help or making sure your speaker is plugged in also I've heard of objects getting stuck on the magnet of the speaker. I guess just look around on the internet for the contact cleaner, I'm sure it couldn't be too hard to find. good luck -Daniel

1. Search for the file ENG_F.SND sound on google or yahoo or any search engine.

2. Connect RM 700 to PC, and create folder name SOUND_EU on RM 700.

3. Copy the ENG_F.SND to SOUND_EU folder.

4. Disconnect RM 700 from PC.

5. Turn on RM 700, and go to Option, configuration, language, and choose English.

6. RM 700 will load sound file and turn off.

7. Turn on RM 700, if it keeps showing the initial screen, then connect the RM 700 to PC, and DELETE the ENG_F.SND from SOUND_EU. It should be OK after you disconnect RM 700 from PC and turn it on again.

NOTES: My screen indeed locked at first as covered in the last step, so expect that to happen. Don't worry if you never get to do step 5 and 6. Connecting the USB, deleting the SND file and restarting it works and the sound is back even without the file there.

This only fixes the Female voice along with the beeps and clicks. The unit goes silent again if you select the male voice but switching back to the female fixed that. I assume "_F" in the file name must mean female.

The display still shows "AFIJDEN...." or something like that instead of the word Exit or Entrance when exiting or entering the freeway. Voice is fine though. Anyone got a fix for that?

If everything else is working fine, specifically the touch screen, then it's probably your speaker. open unit and check your speaker for anything stuck to the back of the magnet (on the speaker). make sure the cable going from your speaker to the keypad PCB (board) is pushed in all the way. you may want to even pull it out and re-connect it. make sure the unit is off while you do this and try to ground yourself with something. good luck and let me know how it turns out.
