Question about LG Dryers

2 Answers

The stainless steel drum/tub has a large tear in it. We have been trying to patch it until we are able to figure out if the drum/tub can be replaced. Does anyone know if it can be replaced & is it fairly easy to do ourselves?

Yes it can be replaced i've done some on commercial drums. there's a lot involved for replaceing the drum the hardest part is finding a bearing puller for the job. you will have to disassemble the washer enough to pull the drum and many other parts will be needed when you put the washer bach togeather seals and other items the you will have to go thru before you get to the drum. do you realley want to tackel this yourself.if so i wish you luck

That sucks. I've been informed by LG technical support this is a non serviceable part. what that means in short is, the part is not available thru LG.

If anyone knows of another fix, or an aftermarket part they may be able to point you in that direction.

I've come across this only once with a client of mine, and we could not repair her 3 yr. old dryer. needless to say she was very upset with LG. Look around at some local used appliance parts outfit if possible, otherwise it's a new dryer.

sorry I couldn't actually provide a "fix".

good luck

We have a kenmore elite washer mod. 970-c40062-00 ser. xc11700832. the washer leaks, and is very noisy. It is 10 years old

Your Stainless Steel drum is supported inside of the washer tub by a spider assembly. The assemply, which is made of cast aluminum, has corroded (steel and aluminum and detegent don't mix) and the spider assembly has broken. The drum has likely wobbled enough to wear a hole through the tub. You need to replace the drum and spider assembly, and tub.

The metal tub has come loose within the housing. It was making a terrible noise. I looked inside the door and the stainless steel drum is disengaged. The rubber gasket and all is fine. Model #...

Two possibilities, one that the drum broke off of the supporting shaft--very expensive part (but could possibly be welded) and a complete tear-down to fix. The second is that the main bearing just behind the drum is bad. You can replace the bearing--go to a bearing supply house with the old one--cost less than $20, plus full tear-down to remove and replace. We went the bearing route and years later is still working well. If you try to buy parts from GE, they want to sell you the whole outer drum assembly for many penny.

My GE Profile Harmony Dryer purchased in DEc 2006 has had a rip in the stainless steel drum that has now reached about 2 x 3 inches large and now makes noise and does not dry properly. It appears to be...

The tear is due to a poor argon weld of the dryer drum. Check the owner's manual regarding any warranty details. Call the customer assistance line regarding this issue. Have your model and serial number ready for them to assist you. The tear in the drum is causing the blower on the dryer to pull air thru the tear in the drum instead of thru the rear inlet duct which draws the heat into the dryer. This results in abnormally long dry times due to no heat passing thru the drum.

You have a big problem here. It sounds like the bearings on the drum shaft are going. this is over $400 for the back half of the outer drum and you have to be a very good mechanic to get it all apart. I currently have mine apart for the same problem which I verified by opening the door of the washer and lifting the inner stainless steel drum up and down with the machine off, of course. The tub is supported by two large ball bearings on the shaft that is supporting the stainless steel drum, and they don't sell just the bearings and seal, only the back half of the drum. If it has gotten bad enough to rub against the front half of the outer tub, it will probably have to be replaced also, about $120. This was probably caused by overloading the washer or washing something that was unbalanced and heavy; this destroys the seal between the inner drum and the heavy bearings, also not available separately, and lets water into the bearings in the aft outer tub which support the inner tub shaft. If you want to try to take this apart to verify, try looking at Whirlpool consumer services technical education group presents #L-68, Job Aid Part No. 8178076. I found it online. It has detailed instructions how to take this machine apart if you are a technician or a talented amateur, as I am. Good luck.

Front load washer loud noise and drum loose but not dropped

Spider arms attached to stainless steel drum inside of tub have probably broken. This is a known problem with Frigidaire front loading washing machines. The stainless steel drum has a 25 year warranty but this does not include the spider arms. You cannot buy the spider arms separately, you have to buy the unit as one. The drum cost about $250.00 and probably about $300.00 in labor to install. You can do it yourself but it is pretty involved. Good Luck!

Dryer has Dents in Stainless Steel Drum!

hmmmmmmmmmm, never tested hailstorm damage,but..........if you say its brand new,let me fill you in on something here.WARRANTY'S WILL NOT INCLUDE THE DRYER TUB IN COVERAGE ,unless the tub supports (rollers/bearings)have failed. There has to be a mechanical failure that causes the tubs problem. Max balls are not included.
Hope I helped you !!! Please rate this !!

Stainless steel drum loose

A loose inner drum usually indicates a failed rear tub bearing. The only solution is to replace the rear half of the tub. (which contains the bearing).... You can check if the pulley nut has come loose by removing the rear panel. There is a large nut that retains the belt pulley to the shaft of the basket.
