Question about Harman Kardon SoundSticks Computer Speakers

1 Answer

Spill Not exactly a high-tech problem ... I spilled coffee yesterday, and probably an ounce or so went into the opening at the top of the sub-woofer.  I quickly turned it upside down to keep liquid away from the electronics and the speaker cone.  I think, I hope, all is well there.  But the problem remaining: is there any way to get the container open, so that I can mop up inside?

Speaker replacement

If the enclosure has a front GRILL that lifts off or can be pried off without difficulty, you may be able to enter from there.
In most cases the manufacturer seals these devices and you cannot open them. The cost to replace could be greater that purchasing a new sub-woofer. Remember Speakers must be MATCHED properly, and unless you have the exact replacement; all may be in vain. The other problem, some systems have Controls attached to the speaker box and that is a whole new problem to solve.

Ironically enough, I went on here because I have the satellites but no subwoofer! LOL, what are the odds. Anyways, if you happen to receive this information, can you please email me at

Like I said, I'm searching for the same exact information for a similar problem and this would REALLY help as I can't power the speakers without this.

if the amp is going bad repair or replace, the sub you would probably have to replace, this would be the best fix. but check the amp also.good-luck!

Harman Kardon 595

Hi, probably two things that can go dead, 1) the woofer itself and/or 2) the amplifier. I will rule out poser supply cos the other speakers are working. Normally they have a separate amplifier than that of the woofer. If you are comfortable working with a soldering iron and a multi tester, after unplugging from the mains, then you open the enclosure and check the continuity of woofer which should read between 4-8 ohms, if it is open or no reading, replace just 2 wires/terminals involve with 3 or 4 screws. If the woofer reads a continuity, then it is the amp which normally is just a single power IC attached to an aluminum heatsink. In some instances, it may be a power transistor pair. In any case you have to be familiar with component level repair. Otherwise, you are probably better off asking a qualified service personnel to do the repair job. Hope this be of some help. Pls post how things turn up. Regards.
